[PHOTOS]: UN decorates Rwandan Police peacekeepers in South Sudan

The UN, on February 19, decorated 183 Rwandan police peacekeepers serving under its mission in South Sudan, with medals of service excellence.

The decorated officers include 160, who constitute the Rwanda Formed Police Two (RWAFPU2) under the command of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bosco Rangura deployed in the capital Juba; and 23 Individual Police Officers (IPOs) who work as advisers and mentors.

About 30 of all those decorated are female. Read more

Female Police officers participate in football tourney

A football tournament organized in line with the forthcoming International Women’s Day started on Friday as women teams from various institutions including Rwanda National Police (RNP) to celebrate a woman.

The International Women’s Day is marked every March 8, and this year’s global celebrations will be marked under the theme:”Press for Progress.” Read more

Nyanza: Three Sacco employees under investigation over embezzlement

Police in Nyanza District arrested three employees of Sacco Urumuri Rwamajyambere as part of the ongoing nvestigations into alleged embezzlement of Rwf9.3 million that were not accounted for at a savings and credit cooperative in Ntyazo Sector.

Those arrested include the branch manager, a cashier and the person in charge loans; preliminary investigations implicated these three people to have had a hand in embezzling the missing money. Read more

Three arrested in operations against sell of substandard meat

Three people were arrested on Friday in Kacyiru Sector in joint operations targeting butcheries and people that operate in unhygienic places or use substandard means to transport meat contrary to standards.

The operations that will continue in other parts of the City of Kigali were conducted by Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Agriculture Livestock Inspection and Certification Services (RALIS) – a department at the Ministry of Agriculture—and local authorities.

Police seized over 161, 700 plastic bags in intensified operations

Ten people were arrested in separate Police operations conducted last Tuesday and Wednesday in Gakenke and Muhanga districts, respectively, after they were found selling or parking goods in plastic bags.

Over 161700 pieces of the banned non-biodegradable bags were seized from the suspects, some of whom were handed varied financial penalties, Police said.

In Muhanga, a woman identified as Juliane Harumukiza, 36, was found with 200 cartons (160000 pieces) of polythene bags. They were found on her shop located in Gahogo Cell, Nyamabuye Sector where 1320 sachets of blue sky were recovered. Blue sky also parked in plastic bags, is classified as narcotic drugs and banned in Rwanda. Read more

Statement on refugee demonstrations in Karongi

On Tuesday February 20, about 500 refugees in Kiziba Camp in Karongi District marched to the  UNHCR offices and camped outside in protest over reduced food rations.

As the relevant local and international institutions came together to discuss and peacefully resolve the issue, Rwanda National Police (RNP) continued to monitor the situation to ensure that security prevails.

Efforts by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs (MIDIMAR), UNHCR and local leaders , among others, to request the refugees to return to their camp as the issue was bieng resolved were met with strong resistance and protests. Read more 

Fighting illicit drugs: Seized contrabands poured in Burera

Psychotropic substances that include illicit gin and other locally made illicit brew were disposed of on Tuesday in Burera District.

The substances valued at over Rwf8.4 million seized in different operations in Burera in the past two months, were poured in separate public exercises conducted in the sectors of Rusarabuye, Butaro, Bungwe, Cyanika and Gahunga.

The poured substances include 1513 litres of crude gin commonly known as kanyanga, and 72480 sachets of illicit gin in different brands such as Chief Waragi, zebra waragi, sky blue, leaving waragi, chase vodka, coffee spirit, host waragi, kitoko and kick waragi.

All these contrabands are classified as narcotics in Rwanda. Read more

Three arrested over car theft, forgery

Police in Musanze District arrested one Sosthene Nteziyaremye and two brokers in connection with forgery and car theft.

According to the Northern Region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, “Nteziyaremye rented a Toyota Avensis RAD 410H from one Clementine Niyonizeye who resides in Kigali. The rental agreement was for a month and it’s during that time that Nteziyaremye allegedly hatched a plan to sell the car.”

Prior to the sale, Nteziyaremye forged purchase agreement indicating that he bought the vehicle from Niyonizeye in august last year at Rwf6.8m. Read more  www.police.gov.rw/news-detail/

Gatsibo DASSO personnel urged to uphold professionalism, discipline

Members of the District Administration Security Support Organ (DASSO) in Gatsibo District have been urged to enhance law enforcement and forge a closer partnership with local authorities, the general public and other security organs in a bid to ensure crime prevention.

The call was made last Monday during a meeting that was presided over by the mayor of Gatsibo, Richard Gasana flanked by the National Coordinator of DASSO, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Charles Kayihura and brought together close to 80 DASSO personnel operating in the district. Read more
