RNP rotates peacekeepers in South Sudan
A contingent of Formed Police Unit (FPU) made up of 160 police officers returned home after completing a one-year tour of duty under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
The returning contingent was headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bosco Rangira.
It was also replaced by the same number, which also left earlier in the day under the command of ACP Emmanuel Karasi.
Prior to their departure, the newly deployed FPU contingent was brief by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Dan Munyuza, who gave them an insight of the mission demands.
“You have been trained well and equipped with the right ideology and skills to facilitate you execute the mission effectively and efficiently,” DIGP Munyuza told the officers.
He reminded them that their conduct while on or off duty should reflect the image of their country and the force. Read more
Drug trafficker arrested with 10kg of cannabis wrapped around waist
A drug trafficker was arrested on April 29, in Nyamagabe District after he tried to traffic about 10 kilogrammes of cannabis.
Reverien Bimenyimana, 28, had wrapped the narcotics around his body in foiled attempt to beat security.
The passenger service vehicle was at the time traveling along Rusizi-Nyamagabe road.
“A resident in Rusizi, where Bimenyimana boarded the vehicle, noticed that he was nervous and his body looked anomalous, and he decided to call the Police,” Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the Southern region police spokesperson, said. Read more
Rulindo: Smuggled minerals intercepted
A man said to be involved in illegal trade of minerals was arrested in Rulindo District.
Philip Nibakure, 35, was arrested in Kanunga Village of Kabuga Cell, Masoro Sector with 62 kilogrammes of cassiterite, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Northern region Police spokesperson, said.
“There was information that Nibakure was conducting illegal mineral business, and when Police went there they found him with 62 kilogrammes of cassiterite, he was immediately taken into custody,” CIP Twizeyimana said.Read more
Three arrested over theft of school computers
Police in Gasabo District arrested three men in connection with stealing 12 computers from Nduba Secondary school.
The computers were stolen when thieves broke into the computer laboratory in the night of April 27.
Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, Senior Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu identified those so far arrested over the theft, as Jean Damascene Harerimana, Francois Mburenumwe and Eric Nshimiyimana.
They are currently detained at Nduba Police station as their case is being handled by Rwanda Investigations Bureau (RIB).Read more
Burera: Assorted narcotic drugs destroyed
Police and local authorities in Burera District, on May 2, publicly destroyed assorted narcotic drugs including cannabis and illicit gin.
The drugs worth over Rwf1 million, according to Police in Gicumbi, were seized in varied operations in the last two months.
They imclude 258 litres of crude gin locally known as Kanyanga, 123 dozens Chief warage, 104 litres of Blue sky and 60 dozens Chase vodka, all banned gin and packed in plastic bags.
Plastic bags were also banned in Rwanda, and trafficking, manufacturing, selling and using them is punishable by law.
Other disposed of drugs include cannabis, locally made illicit drinks as well as illicit raw materials used to distill locally made substances, which were also seized during the same operations. Read more
Truck drivers urged on road safety
Police urged truck drivers to respect road traffic rules and regulations to prevent fatal accidents that arise out of recklessness and inappropriate driving behavior.
While addressing about 60 drivers of Skol breweries, Senior Supt. Jean Marie Vianney Ndushabandi, the spokesperson for traffic and road safety department, observed that accidents caused or involving heavy trucks are in most cases fatal.
He also called upon drivers to drive carefully during foggy or heavy rains. Read more
Police FC signs new coach
Rwanda National Police (RNP) signed a Zambian national, Albert Joel Mphande as the new head coach of Police Football Club.
Mphande, a former footballer, who has 20 years of coaching experience, signed the contract on Thursday. This Friday, he presided over his first training with the law enforcers at Kicukiro stadium.
The 40-year old had parted ways with Nkwazi Football Club in Zambia premier league prior to his appointment to take on Police FC.
Police FC spokesperson, Supt. Regis Ruzindana said that Mphande’s coaching career package will bring something new in the team.
“We believe, based on his 20-year coaching experience, we have something to tap from him, and of course, he has promised to improve the performance of the club,” said Supt. Ruzindana. Read more
