RNP rewards crime preventers in Nyamagabe and Kirehe districts

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has awarded three people – two in Nyamagabe and one in Kirehe districts – for their outstanding partnership in community policing and crime prevention in particular.

The awards that include two motorcycles given to Paul Dusengimana of Nyamagabe and Shaban Habyarimana, and Rwf500, 000 given to Joseph Rwasibo, a local poet in Nyamagabe, were handed over on October 29 by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Damas Gatare, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police.

Dusengimana and Habyarimana were honored as a gesture of his outstanding partnership with RNP to prevent crimes through timely information.

Habyarimana was partly recognised for their  instrumental role in fighting trafficking and use of narcotic drugs in Kirehe.

Rwasibo’s poems, on the other hand, are considered instrumental in anti-crime awareness in the Nyamagabe.

“It is my honor to serve my country in any way that can make it safer for us all. I am grateful that my efforts are recognized in this way. Thank you Rwanda National Police,” Dusengimana said.

Rwasibo echoed the same message, but went on to say that people’s talents shouldn’t only focus on “being individual materialistic” but rather for the good of the community.

ACP Gatare commended the beneficiaries for their exemplary duties.

“We call on the public to continue working closely with the police in crime prevention by providing timely information. We are in a new era of community policing and that includes everyone to ensure the safety of their communities,” ACP Gatare said.

The Mayor of Kirehe, Gerald Muzungu commended the existing partnership between Rwanda National Police and the district.

He further urged Kirehe residents to be exemplary and active partners in crime prevention.

In Nyamagabe, the District Executive Secretary, Jean Pierre Nshimiyimana thanked police for recognizing major players in crime prevention saying that, “all good deeds pay off.”

“Everyone should emulate Dusengimana and Rwasibo. We thank the police for this practice of rewarding those who commit themselves in ensuring that we live in a safer community,” Nshimiyimana said.

Police has so far donated at least 25 motorcycles to individuals and cooperatives as part of its human security programme and to recognize public partnership in community policing.
