Rwanda National Police recovered construction material, stolen on March 12, from Muyange Secondary School in Kicukiro District.
The material which included pipes and roofing textiles valued at around Rwf100,000 were safely returned to the school, while four suspects were arrested.
The suspects were identified as Deo Niyonzima, Valence Munyeragwe the school gatekeeper, James Bicamumpaka and Eugene Bimenyimana.
They are currently held at Kicukiro Police Station as further investigations commence.
Police Spokesperson for Central Region, Superintendent of Police, Modeste Mbabazi, said the theft was orchestrated by the gatekeeper and some of the builders who had been employed to do construction work at the school, but instead connived to steal equipment.
“Police will ensure to protect people and their property against untrustworthy criminals who are always alert in order to break the law. The society should always work with Police by providing timely information in order to facilitateoperations against such theft," he said.
The school's management expressed gratefulness to Police for having recovered the materials, and warned that it should be a lesson to others who could be involved in illegal activities.
Article 300 of the Penal Code stipulates that anyone aound guilt of theft without violence or threat shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of two to five times the value of the stolen property or one of the penalties.
