Rwanda National Police is holding a Genocide fugitive deported from Uganda on January 14, by Uganda Immigration officials.
Jean Paul Birindabagabo was arrested on January 8, 2015, in Mpigi district where he was disguising as a pastor in a place called Buwama.
The suspect was escorted by an Immigaration Officer from Uganda who handed him (suspect) over to his counterpart from Rwanda and consequently handed him over to RNP for judicial process.
Birindabagabo who was wanted for his role in 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, is said to have crossed to Uganda illegally from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Alain Mukurarinda, the Prosecution spokesperson, while addressing the press at Kanombe International Airport, said the suspect is charged with Genocide and crimes against humanity.
Mukurarinda further said that, the suspect was being wanted by justice in Rwanda after he personally killed Tutsi in 1994, in the then Sake Commune in Kibungo Prefecture currently Ngoma District.
Chief Superintendent, Celestin Twahirwa, the Rwanda National Police Spokesperson, said said Birindabagabo, fled the country after committing atrocities, and went to former Zaire before sneaking into Uganda where he was finally arrested.
CSP Twahirwa added that, the suspect will be given due rights and produced in court within five days as the law stipulates.
