Twenty-nine officers, on Friday, completed the fifth intake of the ‘Police Junior Command and Staff Course’ at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District.
Graduands include 26 Police officers and three from Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS).
The Police Junior Command and Staff Course is one of the programmes that were introduced by Rwanda National Police (RNP) to ensure a comprehensive approach to human resource development by combining professional and academic aspects.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, while presiding over the graduation at NPC, said that RNP emphasizes training to produce commanders equipped with the right attitude, skills and knowledge that enable them to confidently handle contemporary policing issues.
He said that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations have become the most challenging security threat and that Police officers as first responders must always be prepared to appropriately deal with these threats.
“The evolving policing challenges calls for adjustments in training to produce skillful and versatile police force that can provide quality police services to communities, prevent and fight crime, provide security, enforce law, maintain order; and have the operational capability to prevent and combat organized crime, including terrorism,” the Deputy Police Chief said.
Although criminals are taking advantage of technology to commit sophisticated crimes, he said, RNP is also increasingly embracing technology to remain ahead of criminals.
“You have now entered another phase of your career during which we expect you to perform better and make a positive impact wherever you will be deployed.
