RNP showcases new computer-based drivers testing centres

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Friday, showcased its new computer-based drivers testing centres, which it established to further easy the process of acquiring a driver’s license.

The force established 18 centres across the country with a capacity of 2980 people per day seeking provisional driver’s license.

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said that the centres reinforce the usual system, further improves service delivery in traffic related services especially facilitating aspiring drivers, doing away with long queues, transparency and toughens measures against corruption. Read more

Peacekeeping: Rwandan Police officers decorated for distinguished service in South Sudan

The UN, on Thursday, decorated 186 Rwandan Police peacekeepers serving in South Sudan with the ‘UN Service Medal’ in recognition of their professional and distinguished service under its mission in South Sudan.

Those decorated include 160 officers under Rwanda Formed Police Unit Two (FPU-2), 26 serving as Individual Police Officers (IPOs) and UN-Police Chief of Staff, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Barthelemy Rugwizangoga.

The medal parade ceremony was held at the FPU-2 base camp in the capital Juba and was presided over by UNMISS Police Commissioner, Madam Unaisi Lutu Vuniwaqa. Read more

RNP steps up measures against coronavirus

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has reinforced the national precautionary measures to keep the country free from coronavirus.

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that apart from halting large gatherings especially its community outreach campaigns, the force is implementing the national and international health and preventive guidelines against the virus. Read more

Police takes fire safety awareness to students, traders in Musanze and Rubavu

Rwanda National Police (RNP) extended fire safety awareness to students of Independent University of Kigali (ULK) Gisenyi campus as well as traders and dwellers in Musanze and Rubavu towns as the force continues to educate different groups of the public on how to avert fire outbreaks.

The training in Musanze conducted on Tuesday benefited about 250 people before it was taken to about 800 students of ULK and about 200 traders and dwellers in Gisenyi.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Paulin Kalisa, the deputy Commanding Officer of the Fire and Rescue Brigade in RNP, as the country is experiencing fast development, electricity connectivity and use of cooking gas has equally become part of communities' daily commodities across the country. Read more

Gerayo Amahoro campaign continues in Higher Learning Institutions

Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the association of owners of driving schools (ANPAER) extended road safety education to students of University of Kigali (UK), Independent University of Kigali (ULK)-Rubavu campus, IPRC branches in Karongi and Nyamagabe districts.

The road safety education in Higher Learning Institutions commenced last week as Police and partners shifted focus to another group of vulnerable road users, whom they educated on traffic rules and regulations, and ensure positive attitudes that will enable them to stay safe and become more responsible road users. Read more

Fighting narcotics: Over 16kgs of cannabis seized

Separate Police operation conducted in Karongi and Rubavu districts on Thursday seized 16 kilograms and 123 pellets of cannabis. Two people connected to the criminal acts were also taken into custody. Read more

One kilogramme and 123 pellets of cannabis were recovered in the house of one Gaudelive Mukangango, 55, located in Burama village, Kagano cell of Mukura sector. Mukangango and her daughter identified as Vestine Nyirarukundo, were arrested in connection with the crime. Read more

NORTHERN PROVINCE: Over 72Kgs of trafficked polythene bags seized

Separate Police operations conducted in Rulindo and Burera districts on Monday seized over 72kgs of banned plastic bags, which had been trafficked into the country through illegal border posts.

About 12kgs of the non-biodegradable bags were impounded in the Bushoki Sector of Rulindo District from a suspected trafficker identified as Jean Damascene Samvura, 38.

Other 60kgs were being trafficked in a vehicle Hiace RAA 986F, which was intercepted in Gahunga Sector, Burera District. Read more

GERAYO AMAHORO: Fresh warning against drunk-driving

Police warned motorists against the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The warning follows Sunday night operations by the Traffic and Road Safety (TRS) department in Rusizi District, where five vehicles and a motorcycle were impounded after drivers were found driving while drunk. Read more
