RNP hands over community development projects worth Frw2.5 billion

Rwanda National Police (RNP) and partners in policing injected about Frw2.5 billion to support community development projects across the country as part of the activities to mark its 22nd anniversary dubbed the 'Police Month.'

The projects including about 7,500 households lit with solar energy, 65 houses constructed for the disadvantaged families and 30 Early Child Development (ECD) centres, were officially handed handed over to the beneficiaries on Friday, December 16.

The RNP also constructed 16 cattle spray races, provided a financial facility amounting to over Frw35 million to cooperatives, 2000 medical insurances and four cows.  Read more...

30 Police officers start UN course on protection of civilians


Thirty Police officers, on Monday, December 12, started a two-week 'Protection of Civilian' course at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters at Kacyiru.

The course is conducted in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).  Read more...

GERAYO AMAHORO: Road safety campaign shifts to enhancing pedestrian safety


The Gerayo Amahoro road safety awareness campaign continued on Tuesday, December 13, across the country with focus on creating new Zebra Crossings, repainting faded ones and educating road users on pedestrian rights.

Police and partners engaged pedestrians and motorists on various roads in an effort to prevent the high rate of pedestrian fatalities.

Statistics indicate that out of 617 fatalities recorded on roads between January and November this year, the majority 234 are pedestrians. Other 183 fatalities involved cyclists while 150 are motorcyclists.  Read more...

Driving tests kick off across the country

Provisional and definitive driving tests started this Monday, December 12, in City of Kigali and across all sites in regions, with call for candidates to always prepare themselves well to reverse the high rate of failure.

Rwanda National Police (RNP) decentralized driving test services to other 16 sites across all regions to facilitate the big number of candidates, after the registration was made open-ended, and to take services closer to the people.  Read more...

RWAMAGANA: Two arrested over fraudulent acquisition of vehicle mechanical certificate


Two people were arrested in Rwamagana District for allegedly flipping vehicle spare parts to acquire a motor-vehicle mechanical inspection certificate.                       

Superintendent of Police (SP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the spokesperson for the Eastern region, said the suspects arrested on Thursday, December 15, include the owner of the vehicle identified as Ignace Mwizerwa, 45, and one Umuhizi Marie Jeanne, 46, who owns a garage in Rwamagana town.

On December 15, Mwizerwa brought his car for inspection at Rwamagana Automobile Inspection Centre (AIC), but it failed the test due to brake failure.

Instead of fixing the mechanical fault, Mwizerwa connived with Umuhizi to flip the old brake drum with the new one, took back the vehicle to the AIC, and passed the mechanical inspection.  Read more...

BURERA: Police arrest man with 12,000 pieces of plastic bags


A man identified as Jean Marie Vianney Noheri, 20, was arrested by the Police in Burera District on Wednesday, December 14, with 600 cartons (12000 pieces) of the outlawed non-biodegradable plastic bags.

Noheri was intercepted at about 04a.m. in Nyamabuye Cell of Kagogo Sector after sneaking the polythene bags into Rwanda from Uganda, through a porous border.  Read more...

NYAGATARE: Vehicle impounded with 11 bales of smuggled clothes


Police in Nyagatare District impounded a vehicle, which was transporting 11 bales of smuggled second-hand clothes commonly known as caguwa.

The vehicle driven by one Gilbert Seminega, 50, also arrested, was intercepted Monday, December 12, in Byimana Village, Rwimiyaga Cell in Rwimiyaga Sector following close collaboration between the Police and local residents, who shared information.  Read more...
