Rwanda deploys new Police contingent in Central African Republic

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Felix Namuhoranye, on Tuesday, November 8, briefed a newly generated Formed Police Unit (FPU) contingent set to be deployed under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The MINUSCA Rwanda FPU-3 of 180 officers set to be deployed this Wednesday, November 9, will be the first peacekeeping contingent to be deployed in Bangassou, about 725 kms South East of the capital Bangui.

DIGP Namuhoranye urged the men and women of the newly generated unit to be exceptional throughout their tour-of-duty.  Read more...

IN PICTURES: Deployment of additional FPU contingent to Central African Republic


On Wednesday, November 9, at about 8:4 a m, Rwanda Formed Police Unit Three (FPU-3) contingent of 180 officers, left Kigali International Airport (KIA) aboard the national carrier, RwandAir, for a one year peacekeeping under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Commissioner of Police (CP) Costa Habyara, Commissioner for Counterterrorism, saluted off the newly generated contingent, which will be operating in the new MINUSCA Field Office of Bangassou, about 727kms south east of the capital Bangui.  Read more...

On Monday, November 7, Rwanda National Police (RNP) completed the rotation of its Formed Police Unit Three (FPU-3) serving in the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

Former smugglers acquire computer, community policing skills


Last year, Rwanda National Police (RNP) helped hundreds of women and young people in Rubavu District, to form fishing, hog farming and poultry cooperatives.

These were the people, who were at the time engaged in various unlawful cross-border activities such as smuggling and illegal fishing.

During its month-long community development activities dubbed the 'Police Month' to mark its 21st anniversary, in December last year, the RNP gave a financial support of over Frw40 million to these cooperatives as part of its human security and crime prevention programmes.

Now, the force, in partnership with the Ministry of ICT and Innovation, and UNDP have donated nine computers and 150 smartphones to nine cooperatives supported by RNP, to facilitate them in record-keeping and communication.  Read more...

Police warns over forgery of driver's license

Police cautioned the public against forging and holding fake driver's license.

This followed the arrest of two men on Tuesday, November 8, who connived to forge a driver's license.

The alleged crime was committed back in 2011, when an employee of one of the driving schools in Rubavu District, helped one of his then aspiring drivers to acquire a forged driving permit.  Read more...

Over 480 illicit fishing nets seized from poachers in Lake Kivu


Separate Police marine operations against poaching in Lake Kivu conducted in the past three months have seized 483 illicit fishing gears from illegal fishermen.

At least 56 substandard boats and 15 poachers were also arrested during the same period.

The illicit fishing gears and boats were disposed of on Thursday, November 10, in Rutsiro District.  Read more...

GASABO: Woman arrested for circulating counterfeit money


Police in Gasabo District arrested one Epiphanie Mukanziga, 55, with counterfeit money amounting to USD3,000, approximately Frw3,135,000.

According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Sylvestre Twajamahoro, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, Mukanziga was arrested on Thursday, November 10, in Jabana after she tried to defraud someone with the counterfeit dollar bills.  Read more...
