Minister Gatabazi urges rehabilitated delinquents to inspire others

Three-hundred rehabilitated delinquents under their group 'Imboni z'Impinduka' (Agents of Change), met at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru on Friday October 28, in a meeting that looked at income generating initiatives and to strengthen efforts against delinquency.

The meeting officiated by the Minister of Local Government, Jean Marie Vianney Gatabazi, also aimed at influencing behavioral change and to further improve the social wellbeing of the young people graduating from the three national rehabilitation centres of Iwawa, Nyamagabe and Gitagata. Read more...

RWAMAGANA: Governor Gasana rallies commercial cyclists on road safety


The Governor of the Eastern Province, CG Emmanuel K. Gasana urged commercial cyclists operating in Rwamagana District to put safety first in their transport services.

He made the call on Thursday October 27, while addressing about 700 cyclists at Kigabiro playground in Kigabiro Sector.

"Operate professionally and that requires you to be in cooperatives, avoid riding while drunk. Love and work for your country, put safety and security ahead in whatever you do," CG Gasana said.  Read more...

Rwandan Police peacekeepers in South Sudan donate to orphans


The female-dominated Rwanda Formed Police Unit Three (RWAFPU-3) serving under the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), on Tuesday October 25, reached out to orphans in the capital Juba with foodstuff and other essential items.

The peacekeepers provided sacks of rice, mosquito nets to fight malaria and hygienic items, to the orphans of St. Clare House for Children.

The donation is out of the financial contribution of the officers of Rwanda FPU-3.

St. Clare House for Children is a home for 95 orphans aged between 3 and 16 years.  Read more...

PHOTOS: Police conducts mass road safety awareness campaign


Safe and secure road transport is an important aspect of public health and contributes to economic and social development of a society.

Rwanda National Police (RNP), therefore, strengthened its public road safety education in a bid to influence behavioral change on safer road usage to prevent accidents, save lives and property.

This week, awareness and other education programmes were extended to owners and managers of driving schools as well as their instructors; students in primary and secondary schools in different parts of the country, taxi-moto operators, cyclists and pedestrians.  Read more...

Police in operations against motorists violating pedestrian walkways


It has become a practice that when new roads are constructed or upgraded, motorists tend use the road anyhow by disregarding road safety standards, putting people's lives at high risk.

Violating Zebra Crossing, one-way traffic, green zones and making U-turn at prohibited junctions; all become a common phenomenon. In some circumstances, these serious violations have resulted into preventable accidents.

In an effort to prevent these reckless human behaviors and to ensure safety of all road users, the Rwanda National Police (RNP) department of Traffic and Road Safety has now started operations educate but also to penalize violators.  Read more...

Police seize smuggled liquors worth Frw50 million


The Rwanda National Police RNP Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (ASOC) unit seized assorted wines, spirits and beers in Gisenyi Sector, Rubavu District valued at about Frw50 million.

The wines and liquors including Hennessy, Moet, and Jameson were recovered on Wednesday, October 26, in a house located in Gisenyi town, Rubavu Cell, Munini Village.  Read more...

RNP, FDA destroy illegal distillery in Kigali

Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (RFDA), on Wednesday, October, 26, discovered a distillery in Jabana Sector, Gasabo District, which was producing illicit brew.

Two people; Geoffrey Ngabonziza, the owner of the production plant, and one Vedaste Sinaribonye, the alleged distributor of the psychotropic substances, were also taken into custody.

Police and FDA also seized over 3500 litres of Huguka illicit brew and close to 1000 litres of Agasusuruko brew, from Ngabonziza's store in Nyabugogo and at his plant in Jabana.  Read more...
