Police extends fire safety to Kigali business community
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Fire and Rescue Brigade has started training on fire safety to traders in congested business areas of the Central Business District of Nyarugenge.
The training is designed to educate traders on fire safety and how safe to use Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
On Monday, fire safety skills were extended to traders in downtown where at least two cases of cooking gas blast have occurred. The recent cooking gas blast occurred on January 31 at a restaurant in downtown, seriously injuring eight people.
Speaking to over 250 dwellers at downtown bus terminal, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Paulin Kalisa, who is in charge of operations in Fire and Rescue Brigade, reminded them that using cooking gas requires knowledge and taking preventive measures.Read more
RNP start series of trainings for private security service providers
Rwanda national Police (RNP), on February 17, started series of trainings, which will benefit about 800 members of personnel from varied private security service providers.
The five-day training to be conducted in ten phases, aims at enhancing quality service and professionalism for the private security personnel.
While opening the first phase of the training for 80 private security personnel at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru, Commissioner of Police (CP) Robert Niyonshuti, the Commissioner of Training and Development, said the training was prepared to improve their understanding and preparedness in the face of emerging security challenges.Read more
HUYE: Police seize 180,000 pieces of polythene bags
Police in Huye District arrested five people on Monday with 900 cartons (180,000 pieces) of banned non-biodegradable plastic bags.
They were arrested in Mukoni Village of Cyarwa Cell in Tumba Sector where one of the suspects identified as Joel Bimenyimana was supplying other four dealers from Huye, Muhanga and Gisagara.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Sylvestre Twajamahoro, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, identified the other four suspects as Florence Nyinawumuntu, 23, Vincent Niyigena, 27, Edison Niringiyimana, 33, and Emmanuel Ndikumana, 20.Read more
RULINDO: Police and residents recover stolen motorcycle
Police in Rulindo District in collaboration with residents of Shyorongi Sector recovered a motorcycle, which was reported stolen recently.
The TVS motorcycle plate number RD 616W, belonging to one Shema Fred, was stolen in Kicukiro District last month.
Chief inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the spokesperson for the Northern region, said the motorcycle was recovered from a suspected thief identified as Jean claude Bizimana alias Petit, 25, a resident of Kirenge Sector in Rulindo. Read more
Khat dealers arrested in Kicukiro
Two dealers in khat were arrested in Gikondo Sector, Kicukiro District on Wednesday.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie-Gorette Umutesi, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said that Mussa Abayisenga, 25, and Jean Marie Dushimiyimana, 29, were found with 29 bundles of mirungi, at the time of their arrest in Marembo II Village, Kanserege Cell.
Also known as miraa, mairungi is a leafy substance that contains a stimulant drug, according to health experts, and classified as a narcotic drug in Rwanda.
The law governing narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors in Rwanda defines narcotic drugs as “chemical substance that affects the processes of the mind or body and whose consumption whether swallowed, sniffed or by way of any other mode exerts impact on human health.” http://http://Read more
KAMONYI: Motorcyclist intercepted for breach of meat transportation standards
Police in Kamonyi District, on February 19, intercepted a motorcyclist identified as Alex Hakizimana, 39, who was transporting 90kgs of meat contrary to the legally set health standards.
Hakizimana, who was transporting the meat on the motorcycle plate number RD 648E, was apprenhended in Gacurabwenge sector.
He was at the time transporting it to Runda from Kayenzi sector, when he was intercepted by the Police in Gacurabwenge, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Sylvestre Twajamahoro, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, said. Read more
RUSIZI: Two arrested over illegal fishing
Two men, who were fishing illegally in Lake Kivu using substandard fishing nets, were arrested on Wednesday in Nkombo, Rusizi District.
The operation was conducted by the police and local leaders to fight the increasing cases of illegal fishing and use of destructive fishing gears.
“Martin Banyanga, 67, and Seleman Sinderibuye, 58, were fishing illegally at night in Lake Kivu on the side of Nyakabande, Bugarura in Nkombo. They were using destructive fishing nets called Kaningini, which catch and kill even the young fish,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Athanase Ruganitwari, the District Police Commander for Rusizi, said.
The arrest of the duo was based on information provided by members of the fishing cooperative in Nkombo. Read more
Breaking narcotics chain of supply: Two dealers arrested
Separate operations conducted last Friday in Kicukiro and Rubavu districts arrested two men said to be major dealers in narcotic drugs.
They were arrested with combined 2,590 pellets of cannabis.
Eulade Tugirimana was arrested in Bwerankori Cell of Kigarama Sector in Kicukiro district with 2101 pellets of cannabis.
Meanwhile, Uwishema had concealed the pellets of cannabis in his bags, which contained clothes and other personal belongings. Read more
KAMONYI: Two arrested over showing movies to minors
Two owners of cinema halls in Kamonyi District were arrested on Friday after Police and local leaders found 11 minors inside watching movies.
Those arrested are Jean Bosco Habiyaremye, 35, and Radjab Dushimimana, 24, with movie halls in Musambira trading centre.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Sylvestre Twajemahoro, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, said the children aged between 13 and 17, had abandoned classes that afternoon to go and watch movies. Read more
