Police officers start training on preventing recruitment of child soldiers 

Twenty-five Police officers, on Monday, May 24, started a five-day training on ?prevention of recruitment and use of children as soldier in armed conflict? at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza, presided over the official launch of the Training of Trainers (ToT) course, which was organized and conducted by Rwanda National Police in partnership with the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security. RUSIZI: Police recovers stolen money

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Thursday, May 27, recovered over Frw4.8 million, which is part of the money that was stolen from a woman in Bugesera District.

The money was recovered from the prime suspect identified as Ildephonse Munyabarenzi, 28, in Rusizi Village, Ryankana Cell, Bugarama Sector in Rusizi District.

The Frw4.8 million recovered in part of over Frw7.8 million, which Munyabarenzi allegedly stole on May 26, from one Berthe Umwanankabandi in Ntarama Sector, Bugesera District.  Readmore...

Beware of savings scam

Fraudsters are creating ghost saving schemes to dupe unwitting members of the public, Police has said. 

Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that several people have fallen victims through such scams orchestrated by specific groups of people, who lure especially small income earners into believing that they are joining a registered association or cooperative backed by local authorities as a community development project.

In the latest case, more than 200 women joined a savings scheme dubbed ?Turemerane? in Rusizi District. It later came to light that the illegal scheme was formed by a group with ?individual interests.?  Readmore... 

KIGALI: Man arrested with skin bleaching products worth Frw9 million

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Monday, May 24, showed to the media a man, who was dealing in outlawed skin bleaching products commonly known as Mukologo.

John Hakizimana, 39, was arrested in a Police operation conducted earlier that day when officers recovered assorted outlawed skin whitening creams and oils from his house located in Ingenzi Village, Kivugiza Cell of Nyamirambo Sector, Nyarugenge District.

Police recovered 90 boxes of skin bleaching products from Hakizimana's house, valued at about Frw9 million.  Readmore...

RUBAVU: Police seize 20 bales of smuggled clothes and shoes

Police in Rubavu District seized 20 bales of second-hand clothes and shoes commonly known as Caguwa, which were being smuggled into Rwanda from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The bales were seized on Monday, May 24, at about 2am from a group of smugglers, who had just sneaked them into Rwanda through Rukeri village, Bihungwe cell of Mudende sector.  Readmore...

GAKENKE: Five suspected drug dealers arrested with over 1500 pellets of cannabis 

Five people were on Monday, May 24, arrested in Gakenke District with 1515 rolls of cannabis.

The group was intercepted by the Police enroute to City of Kigali from Musanze District.

Those arrested are Nadia Umutoniwase, 18, Florence Mukashema, 32, Emmanuel Ngabonziza, 27, Olivier Byiringiro, 25 and one only identified as Uwineza, 25.  Readmore...

BURERA: 17 caught violating COVID-19 prevention directives

Seventeen people were on Tuesday, May 25, arrested in Kagogo Sector of Burera District where they were holding a prayer gathering contrary to the government directives on preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prayer gatherings are only allowed in places of worship that were permitted to resume services and observing the health guidelines against Coronavirus.

Police and local leaders found the group at about 1pm, congregating at the house of the one Odette Uruvugundi, 50, located in Rusisiro Village, Kayenzi Cell in Kagogo Sector.  Readmore... 

Duo arrested with over 2,800 rolls of cannabis

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), on Thursday, May 27, arrested red-handed two people in Kigali and Nyabihu District in possession of combined 2,836 pellets of cannabis.

Those arrested are identified as Angelique Byukusenge, 21, found with 1,000 pellets and Marie Therese Uwiduhaye, 25, found with 1,836 pellets.  Readmore... 

COVID-19: Over 50 caught in traditional wedding function

Fifty-four people were on Saturday, May 29, arrested in Kirwa Village, Nyakabanda II Cell in Nyakabanda Sector, Nyarugenge District where they were holding a traditional wedding ceremony locally known as 'Gusaba no Gukwa.'

Rwanda National Police (RNP) found the violators at Ubwiza Garden Motel at about 11am, where the traditional ceremony was at the time underway.  Readmore...
