Professionalism and discipline key to sustainable security, Minister Nyamvumba
The Minister of Internal Security, Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba emphasized the need for police officers to uphold discipline and professionalism as a prerequisite to sustainable safety, security and development.
Gen. Nyamvumba made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing the ‘Police High Council’ at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.
The High Council was also attended by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza and Deputy IGPs; Juvenal Marizamunda of Administration and Personnel, and Felix Namuhoranye of Operations.
In his address, the Minister, who commended Police for its professional approaches to ensuring safety and security of people living in Rwanda, said, however, that there is a need to increase training, discipline, and service delivery as key factors for Police professionalism.
“Although a lot has been achieved, there is still more to be done in the direction of preventing and eliminating crimes," Minister Nyamvumba said. Read more
IGP Munyuza briefs Police officers ahead of MINUSCA deployment
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza, on Sunday, urged Police officers set to be deployed under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), to maintain Rwanda National Police (RNP) values and to aim for "service excellence and maximum execution of their peacekeeping mandate."
IGP Munyuza, while addressing the officers at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru, challenged them to “stick to the mission mandate.”
“What is required of you is to implement what you were trained to do. Always remember that you are representing your country and Rwandans,” IGP Munyuza said. Read more
[PHOTOS]: RNP conducts FPU rotation in Central African Republic
On Monday, two Formed Police Unit (FPU) contingents of combined 280 officers left Kigali International Airport for a one year tour-of-duty under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
The contingents; FPU-1 and FPU-2 are commanded by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Uwimana Safari and (SSP) Antoine Munyampundu, respectively.
The contingent under ACP Safari will conduct its peacekeeping operations in the capital Bangui, while that under SSP Munyampundu will be based in Kaga Bandora, in the north of the capital. Read more

Gakenke: Police rescues 13 minors from child labor
Police in Gakenke District has rescued 13 children aging between 10 and 15 who were subjected to carrying loads sugarcane to Gakenke market, on Monday.
Four children were found in Mataba commercial center selling sugarcane while nine were carrying sugarcane loads.
According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for Northern region, some of the children are involved in harsh labor to gain some money and others are sent by their parents. Read more
Rwamagana: Man arrested attempting to bribe police officer
Police in Rwamagana District has arrested Francois Nsengiyumva, 48, attempting to bribe the officer on duty.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson of Eastern region, said that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday in Nzige Cell, Nzige Sector attempting to bribe the officer with Rwf100, 000 to abandon the case of Fabien Manikunzwe, 35, his relative and an illegal brewer, who managed to escape law enforcers on September, 14, 2019 while he was distilling ‘Kanyanga’ a psychotropic substance, banned in Rwanda. Musanze: Two men arrested trafficking narcotics in Irish potatoes sac
Police in Musanze District, on Thursday, arrested two men after they were found trafficking cannabis in Irish potatoes sac.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said that Jean Bosco Ndayambaje, 32, and Kassim Ndagijimana, 31 had concealed 2002 pellets of cannabis in a sac of Irish potatoes. Read more
