COVID-19: Over 100 arrested in bars drinking in Bugesera
Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Saturday February 6, arrested 113 people in Nyamata Sector, Bugesera District after they were found in different bars drinking.
They were arrested in five hospitality establishments, including bars and motels.
Those arrested include nine people from Kigali, who had secured movement clearance apparently to go for varied essential services. Read more
Kanyanga trafficking ring busted in Gicumbi
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-smuggling and organised crimes unit arrested five men in Gicumbi District belonging to the same notorious ring that traffics an illicit gin locally known as Kanyanga, into the country.
The voilent group that calls itself Abarembetsi was intercepted on Friday, February 5, at about 9pm in Rushaki Sector, Karurama Cell in Nyaruhanga Village as they crossed into Rwanda from Uganda through an illegal border point.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said that the group was at the time carrying kanyanga packed in polythene bags and concealed in five sacks. Read more
Kamonyi: Vehicle intercepted transporting 560kgs of smuggled minerals
Police in Kamonyi District impounded a vehicle which was transporting about 560kgs of smuggled minerals.
The vehicle registration number RAC 963F was intercepted on Friday, February 5, at about 5:30am at Nyabarongo bridge, en route to Kigali.
The coltan and cassiterite minerals were concealed in five sacks. Read more
Inside Police operations against drug dealers in Southern Province
Fighting drug related crimes is one of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) priorities against lawlessness and to further improve the overall safety and security in the country.
Like in other parts of the country, the awareness campaigns continue to yield results in the Southern Province in terms of strong partnership and information sharing on suspected major drug dealers.
Over the past five months alone, about 110 suspected drug dealers were arrested in the districts of Muhanga, Ruhango and Kamonyi. Read more
COVID-19: Police warns errant violators as over 360 are arrested in Kigali
Rwanda National Police (RNP) warned members of the public, who behave like they are not concerned about the COVID-19 prevention guidelines and engage in prohibited practices.

Gasabo: 28 arrested over prohibited gathering
A group of 28 people was on Tuesday, February 2, caught in a house located in Gisozi Sector, Gasabo District praying.
The house where the group had congregated, located in Musezero Cell, Nyakariba Village is owned by one only identified as Christine, who fled from the scene during the operation. Read more
Stay safe by observing COVID-19 prevention guidelines
Residents of Rwanda are urged to continue observing the COVID-19 prevention measures for their safety and to held the government to effectively curb the spread of the virus.
The Cabinet meeting held on February 2, extended the existing prevention measures across the country, including the current lockdown in City of Kigali until February 7.
The Cabinet further outlined other directives that will take effect from February 8-22. Read more
COVID-19: Over 90 caught in house praying
Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested 94 people on Sunday, January 31, in Musanze District for holding prayer gatherings contrary to the government directives meant to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The violators were found in the two separate houses in Bikara and Karambi cells of Nkotsi Sector. Read more
