Operations against big drug dealers reaping big

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) operations targeting major drug dealers to break chains of supply, have continued to yield big results.

In separate operations conducted on November 26th and 27th, Police apprehended two big dealers in Kirehe and Nyabihu districts with combined 102 kgs of cannabis. Read more

COVID-19: Over 40 caught in wilderness holding prohibited religious gathering in Gisagara

At least 42 people were on Thursday, November 26, found gathered in the wilderness praying in Gisagara District, Gishubi Sector in Nyakibungo Cell. They were at the time gathered in the gazetted forest located in the village of Banga.

Their actions are contrary to the government directives that prohibit big gatherings to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.Read more

ILLEGAL MINERAL TRADE: Five arrested with minerals

Separate Rwanda National Police (RNP) operations against illegal mining and trade in minerals saw five people arrested on Thursday, November 26, in City of Kigali and Kamonyi District.

In Kigali, one Kennedy Ngirabakunzi was arrested in Intwali Village, Rwampara Cell of Nyarugenge Sector in Nyarugenge District, in possession of 40kgs of Cassiterite.

Four others were arrested in Kamonyi District. They include the trio of Jean de Dieu Ndahimana, Sandrine Niyoniringira and Tito Hagenimana, who were arrested in Rukoma Sector with 26.5kgs of coltan; and Samuel Mugisha, who was arrested in Kayenzi Sector where he was found mining. Read more

Rwanda National Police breaks chain of major drug dealers

Four people suspected to be members of the same syndicate of major drug dealers have been arrested in separate operations conducted by the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU).

They were arrested in separate operations conducted in City of Kigali and Rubavu District, with combined 6,500 rolls of cannabis. Read more

SOUTHERN PROVINCE: Residents sensitized on community policing, legal trade

Police and local leaders in the Southern Province, on Tuesday, November 24, held a meeting with residents and grassroots leaders from Ngoma and Nyanza sectors in Nyaruguru and Gisagara districts, respectively, to enlighten them on the ideology of community policing and to fight the high cases of smuggling.

The anti-crime outreach event held in consideration of the health guidelines against the pandemic of the COVID-19 was presided over by the Governor of the Southern Province, Alice Kayitesi.

It was also attended by the Southern Region Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Innocent Rutagarama Kanyamihigo. Read more

How Rwanda National Police intercepted a motorcyclist trafficking 10,000 pellets of cannabis

On Monday, November 23, Police in Jomba Sector of Nyabihu District intercepted a taxi-moto operator identified as Raphael Nsengiyaremye, 33, with about 10,000 pellets of cannabis.

Nsengiyaremye, who was trafficking the narcotics on a motorcycle TVS, plate number RE 221Z, had concealed the ‘very severe drugs’ in a sack of charcoal so as to beat security. Read more

Found money returned to owner

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Monday, November 23, handed back the money, which was found by a Police officer on duty, to the rightful owner.

The owner, Claudine Uwizeyimana misplaced it on November 12, along KCC-Remera road where it was found by a Police officer, who was nearby on duty. Read more

Three arrested over violent theft in Lake Kivu

Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested three people in connection with the violent attack on fishermen in Lake Kivu and stealing boat engines.

Four people armed with machetes, in the night of Sunday, November 22, attacked fishermen on the shores of Lake Kivu in Bukiro Village, Karambi Cell of Kivumu Sector, Rutsiro District and stole valuables including a boat engine.

The suspected violent thieves assaulted and injured one of the fishermen. Read more
