Seven arrested over violent motorcycle theft
Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested seven people suspected to be connected to the recent violent theft of a motorcycle in Runda Sector, Kamonyi District.
The theft incident occurred in the evening of October 28, when three of the suspects allegedly worked together to lure a taxi-moto operator identified as Isidore Habyarimana, from Kigali to an ambush in Runda. Read more
Driver’s license tests to resumes in November
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) department of Traffic and Road Safety will, on November 2, resume its provisional and definitive driver’s license testing services.
RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said that the date and month of conducting the tests in provinces and districts, will vary. Read more
Police urges public to be vigilant during this rainy season
Rwanda National Police (RNP) urges the general public to be vigilant and respect weather advisories to prevent falling victim of disasters, especially in this rainy period.
RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said that some people become victims due to “lack of compliance” to weather and disaster advisories or trying to force their way through flooded areas.
“Avoid driving or passing through floods, adhere to the Police instructions especially in areas affected by floods, follow any issued advisories, either issued by Rwanda Meteorology Agency or Rwanda National Police. Forcing your way through these floods can be fatal like we have witnessed in the past,” CP Kabera said. Read more
NORTHERN PROVINCE: Operations against narcotics, illicit products paying off
Separate police operations conducted in the districts of Burera and Musanze of Northen Province, in the last three months, seized over 5,300 pellets of cannabis and 230 litres of kanyanga, an illicit crude gin banned in Rwanda.
During the operations conducted jointly with other law enforcement organs and local leaders, they also seized 459 sachets of assorted illicit gin packed in banned plastic bags as well as expired products including food stuff and food flavours, powdered milk, hair products, soft and energy drinks, among others.
The narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and expired products were disposed of on Wednesday, October 28, in a public exercise held in Musanze District, Muhoza sector in Nduruma cell. Read more
Suspected major drug trafficker arrested in Rubavu
Rwanda National police (RNP) arrested a suspected major trafficker and wholesaler of cannabis in Rubavu District identified as Vincent Nzabonima, 31, with 7500 pellets of the ‘very severe drug', cannabis.
Nzabonima was arrested on Thursday, October 29, in Makiro Village, Nyacyonga Cell of Busasamana Sector alongside his casual employee identified as Didas Nsengimana, 27. Read more
Nyagatare: Three arrested trafficking over 20, 000 pieces of plastic bags
Three people were arrested on Tuesday, October 27, in Nyagatare District with over 20, 000 pieces of banned non-biodegradable plastic bags, which they were at the time trafficking into Rwanda.
The suspects identified as Felicien Kimenyi, Jean de Dieu Nizeyimana and Frank Dusengimana were intercepted in Rwempasha Sector, Ryeru Cell.
They were also caught with 16 litres of the illicit crude gin locally known as Kanyanga, which is outlawed and classified as a psychotropic substance in Rwanda. Read more
Suspected Police impersonator arrested in Rubavu
Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested a man identified as David Mutuyimana, in Rubavu District, who was allegedly masquerading as one of their own and defrauding taxi-moto operators.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson of the Western region, said that Mutuyimana was arrested on October 25, in Risiza cell of Bugeshi sector after one of the taxi-moto operators that he had allegedly defrauded reported the matter to the Police. Rutsiro: Police arrest suspected drug dealer with over 2,000 rolls of cannabis
Police in Rutsiro District, on Saturday, October 24, arrested one Olivier Mugisha, 25, with over 2,200 rolls of cannabis.
At the time, Mugisha, who was traveling in a passenger service vehicle, was allegedly trafficking the narcotics to Karongi from Rubavu District. Read more
