Police in fresh campaign on COVID-19 prevention practices
Rwanda National Police (RNP) resumed its awareness campaign to educate the general public on the government directives and safety practices against the pandemic of novel Coronavirus.
Since Monday, August 10, RNP has deployed its vehicles and motorcycles mounted with loud speakers to convey the Dos and Don'ts designed to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
Vehicles and motorcycles are trekking through markets, trading centres, residential areas and streets spreading safety message to further influence behavioural change and positive actions in line with the government directives and other instructions meant to curb the spread of the pandemic. COVID-19: RBC conducts mass testing of violators
Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) spent Thursday night carrying out mass testing for COVID-19 to the cluster of people caught moving beyond 9PM.
The testing was carried out at all the four centres in City of Kigali; Amahoro, Kicukiro and Kigali stadiums as well as the Independent University of Kigali (ULK) ground in Gisozi, where the violators are taken.
The centres are wide spaces used to control movements beyond 9pm, where those caught violating the 9pm restriction are educated on the pandemic, enlightened on the directives and reminded of prevention practices.
Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, RBC Director General said that they are working with Rwanda National Police (RNP) to add clusters of violators on the list of those to be sampled and tested. Read more
Muhanga: Two illegal mineral dealers arrested giving bribes
Two suspected illegal mineral dealers were, on Friday, August 14, arrested in Nyamabuye Sector of Muhanga District as they attempted to give a bribe of Rwf500,000.
The two suspects are identified as Ezechiel Ntampaka and his elder brother, only identified as Mbanda.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Emmanuel Ndori, the Political and Civic Education Officer (RPCEO) of the Southern region, said that Ntampaka was intercepted by the Police on August 10, in Taba, Kamonyi District, with 187kgs of minerals. Read more
COVID-19: 23 found in house praying
Twenty-three people from different religious denominations were on Tuesday, August 11, found in the same house in Gatsibo District praying, contrary to government directives meant to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
They were caught at about 9PM in the house of one Uwizeye Liberatha, 30, located in Kiramuruzi Sector, Gakenke Cell in Akarusisi Village.
Chief Insepector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said that the group was "congested in a small room of two-by-three meters." Read more
Assorted smuggled liquors seized in Rubavu
Police in Rubavu District recovered assorted smuggled goods including liquors, from the house of a suspected smuggler in Gisenyi Sector, Bugoyi Cell.
This was during an operation conducted on Thursday, August 13, facilitated by information provided by residents.
The house belongs to one Asia Nyiransengiyumva, 32, the alleged smuggler, who was also taken into custody. Read more
SOUTHERN PROVINCE: Operations against illegal mining, child labour strengthened
Police in the Southern region have strengthened operations against illegal mining activities and people, who use minors in such unlawful and hectic practices.
In two separate operations conducted in Muhanga and Ruhango districts, Police and local leaders arrested ten people, who were illegally mining coltan and cassiterite and rescued two children, who were at the time being used in the hazardous and hard labour acts. Read more
