COVID-19: Police cautions against home parties
Rwanda National Police (RNP) cautioned against holding home events and other unnecessary gatherings, which could fuel the spread of COVID-19 infections.
RNP spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera said that although the rate of compliance to COVID-19 directives and guidelines remains high, there are some people, who engage in prohibited practices.
“Most violators are witnessed and intercepted in weekends. The number is high for those found holding birthday parties or turning their homes into bars." Read more
Mechanical inspection services to open for commercial vehicles
Rwanda National Police (RNP) announced that the Motor-vehicle Inspection Centre (MIC) will resume its services on August 4, but only for commercial vehicles.
"As we continue to observe the government directives in the fight against further spread of Coronavirus, MIC operations will only start with public service vehicles, specifically buses and minibuses; commercial vehicles meant for transportation of goods, which include trailers, semi-trailers, trucks with three axles and above, and Fuso trucks," RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said. Gasabo: Two arrested in foiled theft
Police in Gasabo District arrested two men, who were found breaking into a house in Kimironko Sector to steal assorted valuables.
Eric Tuyizere, 20, and Manase Ishimwe, 23, were arrested in the act at about 11am in Bibare Cell, Intashyo Village, where they were stealing items in the house of one Rama Krishan.
Gasabo District Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pierre Tebuka said that neighbours to the would-be victim called the Police after seeing the two men breaking into the house. Read more
Musanze: Police officers trained on COVID-19 prevention
Eighty-four Police officers conducting their policing duties in Musanze District, were on Monday July 27, given basic knowledge and skills on COVID-19 prevention.
The training was conducted by Ruhengeri Referral Hospital rapid response team.
According to the hospital management, the training aimed at enlightening Police officers on prevention practices for maximum safety in their working environment. Read more
Motorcycle thieves arrested in Kayonza
Two men suspected to be behind the theft of a motorcycle early this year in Kayonza District, were been arrested.
On April 13, 2020, the two suspects allegedly broke into the house of one Gatsinzi Charles, at night, located in Rwinkwavu Sector, Gihinga Cell in Gihinga village and stole his motorcycle plate number RC 149W. Read more
Fishermen warned against smuggling
Police cautioned fishermen against fraud and facilitating smugglers.
The warning followed an operation conducted by Marine Police in Lake Kivu on Tuesday July 28, in which three fishermen were arrested in part of the waters in Nkombo Sector, Rusizi District with assorted smuggled goods, including pharmaceutical drugs.
The operation was conducted jointly with Rusizi fishing union. Read more
Rubavu: Drug dealer arrested with 3000 pellets of cannabis
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit, on Wednesday July 29, arrested a suspected major drug dealer in Rubavu District with 3000 pellets of cannabis.
Saidi Alphonse was arrested in Bisizi Village of Rusigari Cell in Cyanzarwe Sector, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson of the Western region, said.
"The Anti-Narcotics Unit received credible information that Saidi is part of the ring that traffics cannabis into Rwanda from the Democratic Republic of Congo."Read more
Three arrested in driver's license scam
Three people belonging to the same coordinated ring were arrested in City of Kigali in connection with scamming aspiring drivers promising to give them driver's license.
The fraudsters were guising as Police officers attached to the Traffic and Road Safety department.
The suspects, who were paraded to the media on Friday, July 31, are; Emmanuel Nkurunziza, 37, Jean Claude Mberabagabo, 38, and Jean Bosco Munyangabe, 37.
Mberabagabo was introducing himself to his targets as a 'Chief Inspector of Police (CIP)' heading the IT directorate at the Traffic and Road Safety department; Nkurunziza as 'Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP)' charged with entering names of successful candidates into the system; while Munyangabe is a driving instructor at Midland Driving School in Remera, Gasabo District.
