Rwandan Police peacekeepers develop project to address clean water shortage in Bangui
Residents of Bangui in Central African Republic (CAR) will no longer have to worry with access to clean water thanks to an initiative developed by a Rwanda Formed Police Unit (RWAFPU) serving under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the CAR (MINUSCA).
Rwanda FPU-1 deployed in the Bangui under the command of ACP Safari Uwimana, in December last year developed the project worth US$50,000 to address the shortage of clean water in the capital. Read more
ILLEGAL FISHING: Ten arrested in Lake Kivu
Police Marine operations conducted in Lake Kivu on Friday, July 24, against illegal fishing arrested ten poachers.
The successful operations aimed at fighting illegal fishing
were conducted by Nkora Marine station in collaboration with the fishing Union in Rutsiro District.
The Marine Commanding Officer (CO), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Elias Mwesigye said that the operation was conducted on the Islands of Mafundugu and Nyanamo in Sector Musasa of Rutsiro District, where 16 wooden boats and 15 rolls of illicit fishing nets known as kaningini that were being used by the poachers, were also seized. COVID-19: Police outlines tough measures against errant violators
Rwanda National Police (RNP) outlined tough measures against errant members of the public and motorists in particular, who continue to breach directives meant to contain COVID-19, thus derailing national efforts against the pandemic.
The new measures, according to RNP spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera, include digital recording of identities of every violator to inform "serious actions" in case of recidivism.
"As part of the efforts to implement the directives, compliance and easy identification of errant violators, RNP has started a new digital system to keep detailed data on everyone, including motorists and pedestrians, who breach the directives to inform severe actions when you are caught again," CP Kabera said. Over 2,500 litres of illicit brew seized in Nyabihu and Rutsiro
Separate operations by the Police and local authorities conducted in Nyabihu and Rutsiro districts against distilling and selling illicit brew, seized over 2500 litres of assorted substances.
At least 2,375 litres were seized from intercepted transporters in Nyabihu while 140 litres were seized from the producer identified as Speciose Nyirabiziyaremye in Mberi, Rutsiro District. Read more
RUBAVU: Revenue Protection Unit breaks smuggling ring
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Revenue Protection Unit has intercepted assorted goods in Rubavu District, which were being smuggled into the country from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
The goods, including 23 bales of secondhand clothes and about 250kgs of used shoes, were impounded on Wednesday July 22, from ten smugglers in Rubavu Sector, Buhaza cell in Murambi village.
The smugglers were also taken into custody.
Other goods intercepted from the smugglers include liquors, powdered milk, traditional fabric commonly known as kitenge, cooking flavours, boxes of cigarettes as well as products banned in Rwanda including plastic bags and body bleaching lotions and glycerine. Read more
