RNP bids farewell to retired Police officers

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Tuesday June 30, officially bid farewell to 261 officers, who were retired and discharged honorably from active service, last week.

The retirees include 147 commissioned officers. At least 20 left active service on medical grounds. Read more 

KWIBOHORA 26: Reflecting on RNP’s footsteps in the liberation journey

Every July 4, Rwanda celebrates the Liberation Day. It is the Day when friends of Rwanda and Rwandans across the world come together to reflect on the time when the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi was stopped and to celebrate the transformation journey thus far.

The country’s Kwibohora journey also required restructuring and building a strong and proactive security system.

Prior to and immediately after the Rwandan Patriotic Front and Army (RPF/A) liberated Rwanda on 4th July 1994, Rwanda had several Para-military and Civil defense forces entrusted to keep law and order. Read more 

COVID-19: Police urges public to be acquiescent to mass testing

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has urged the general public to be responsive to the ongoing random COVID-19 testing program, which started Thursday, July 2, on the streets of Kigali. 

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera appealed to those going about their errands to exercise patience to be tested to facilitate the national efforts against the pandemic. Read more 

RUSIZI: Police recovers stolen motorcycle

A man suspected to be part of the series of motorcycle theft was arrested in Rusizi District on Friday, July 3.

Ngabonziza Daniel, 29, was arrested in Muganza Sector with a motorcycle AG100 registration number RC 129C, which had been reported stolen the previous night. Read more 

COVID-19: Five arrested for undermining police orders

Five people were arrested in City of Kigali for allegedly violating the curfew and undermining Police orders.

The violators were paraded to the media this Friday at Kigali metropolitan in Remera. All the violators are drivers and motorcyclists, who sped away after they were directed by the Police to park their automobiles. Two of the suspects are driver while three others are taxi-moto operators. Read more 

Suspected smugglers arrested in Kigali

Four suspected smugglers were arrested in City of Kigali with assorted goods, which they sneaked into the country through porous border points and other fraudulent channels.

They were arrested separately this week having managed to find their way into Kigali with their goods. 

They were caught with assorted goods including liquors and bales of second-hand clothes locally known as Caguwa. Read more 

COVID-19: Motorcyclists in Rubavu reminded to respect safety measures

Commercial motorcyclists and cyclists in Rubavu District were on Wednesday July 1, reminded to exercise a high level of compliance to be safe from COVID-19 and protect their passengers.

The call was made the acting Regional Police Commander (RPC)-West, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Edmond Kalisa, while addressing about 500 motorcyclists and cyclists at Umuganda stadium.

The meeting aimed at enlightening the transport group on safety measures as they resumed operations following the June 30, extraordinary Cabinet meeting, which lifted the travel restrictions to and from Rubavu. Read more
