COVID-19: ‘Ntabe Ari Njye’ campaign to influence ‘individual positive choices’

Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that individual responsibility is key containing the pandemic of COVID-19.

While appearing on ‘Waramutse Rwanda’, a morning talk-show on Rwanda Television on Monday, CP Kabera observed that ‘Ntabe Ari Njye’ literally translated as ‘I shouldn’t be the one’ campaign initiated by RNP is meant to effect change in people’s thinking and actions to make safer individual choices in compliance with the recommended directives and guidelines to contain the pandemic.

“Ntabe Ari Njye campaign looks at the individual character to make a choice not be the source for COVID-19 infections where you live, walk, in the vehicle or at work. Read more 

GASABO: Police, partners conduct awareness on COVID-19

Police, local leaders and youth volunteers in Gasabo District, on June 25, conducted separate awareness campaigns to educate the public on safety practices to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. 

The mass campaign was conducted separately in the sectors of Kinyinya, Kimironko, Bumbogo and Remera as part of the efforts to educate the people and influence safety and healthy actions to prevent the spread of the pandemic. Read more

Kicukiro: Suspected conman arrested

A man, who has been in hiding over fraud related crimes, has been arrested in Kicukiro District.

Protestestere Twitegure, 31, was arrested on Friday June 26, in Nyarugunga Sector, Kamashashi Cell.

Senior Superitendent of Police (SSP) Burahinda Ntacyo, the District Police Commander (DPC) for Kicukiro, said that Twitegure was fraudulently withdrawing money from people's mobile accounts. 

"He was wanted in connection with the recent case where he allegedly fraudulently transferred Rwf800, 000 from someone's mobile account to different other accounts including those registered in his name," SSP Burahinda said. Read more 

Huye: Suspected drug traffickers arrested with 10kgs of cannabis

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) arrested four people on June 25, in Huye District, said to be major drug traffickers. 

Jean Damascene Karambizi, 54, Faustin Buhiga, 47, Samuel Habumugisha and Jeremie Nkundimana, 39, were intercepted in Tumba Sector, Gitwa Cell in Rebero Village. 

They were at the time found in possession of 10kgs of cannabis, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Sylvestre Twajamahoro, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, said. Read more 

SOUTH: Youth Volunteers in campaign on COVID-19 prevention

Members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Huye and Kamonyi districts, on Tuesday, conducted varied activities aimed at strengthening their efforts in education the public of safety measures against COVID-19 pandemic.

In Huye District, 38 youth volunteers from Huye Sector, who represented other members of the youth group to comply with the safety guidelines and to prevent mass gathering; they held a meeting with the Police and local authorities to streamline their outreach and supervision activities on the implementation of the government directives to prevent the spread of the virus. Nyaruguru: Over 360 kgs of smuggled minerals intercepted

Police in Nyaruguru District, on Monday, intercepted at least 363kgs of smuggled and untagged minerals from two illegal dealers.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Sylvestre Twajamahoro, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, identified the smugglers as Innocent Celestin Bizimana, 32, and Venuste Bagayuwitunze, 64.

He said that the minerals were seized from the duo in two separate operations. 

Bizimana and Bagayuwitunze work together in illegal trade of minerals. Read more
