Over 1300 complete Basic Police Course
Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Friday, gained 1354 new members, who completed the 'Basic Police Course' at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.
At least 218 of the trainees are female.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Johnson Busingye presided over the pass-out ceremony of the 16th Basic Police Course intake.
The Minister awarded the new Police officers the rank of 'Police Constable.'
The pass-out event held in consideration of the national guidelines to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, was also attended by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza and the Deputy IGP in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda.
Minister Busingye formally welcomed the new Police officers into the RNP family.
The pass out, he said, signifies Rwanda's commitment to continue to build an able and professional Police force capable of effectively accomplishing its policing mandate to reassure the safety and security of people living in Rwanda and their property. Read more
Police breaks chain of smugglers
Ten people belonging the same coordinated chain of smugglers were arrested.
The chain involves its ringleader and the owner of the smuggled goods identified as Alexis Nyaminani, his appointed coordinator, Aristide Mashyaka, drivers who transport the goods from one point to another and motorcyclists, who mainly act as spotters in an attempt to beat security.
Nyaminani's coordinated ring was mainly smuggles second-hand clothes locally known as Caguwa, from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through porous border points, to the market in Kigali.
The ring came to light after a vehicle loaded with 37 bales of used clothes was intercepted in Kimisagara, Nyarugenge District having made its way to Kigali through the same coordinated communication between the whole chain. Read more
Bugesera: Police recovers 1.2 tonnes of stolen maize
Police in Bugesera District recovered 1.2 tonnes of maize that were allegedly stolen from the store of a local businessman, Fulgence Sibomana, in Rilima Sector, Nyabagendwa Cell.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Eastern region Police spokesperson said the maize was recovered from two suspected thieves; Emmanuel Nsanzimana, 28 and Innocent Fasasi, 30.
The two suspects were working for Sibomana as security guards at the store. Read more
COVID-19: Police urges on respect for directives on holding functions
Rwanda National Police (RNP) urged those holding varied events to be responsive to the recommended safety guidelines to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
The guidelines on religious or wedding ceremonies, for example, only 30 people are allowed either in church or at the reception. The same guidelines apply to funeral functions.
For related church functions, chairs must be cleaned with water and soap or sanitized before and after use; wash or sanitize hands before entering the holy place; ensure 2-metre distance, wear facemask with exception of the bride and groom; no exchange of microphones, the bible or Quran; no laying hands on the brides, among other guidelines.
Events can also be held in larger or open spaces in consideration of the directives to prevent being the source of the infection.
The same goes for the hospitality establishments, which are required to host events in consideration of the national directives to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Read more
Suspected Police Impersonators Arrested in Driver's License Scam
Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested five men, who were masquerading as one of their own and defrauding unwitting members of the public.
The suspects, who were paraded to the media this Thursday at Kicukiro Police station, were arrested separately in different parts of the country.
They belong to different rings involved in scamming mainly those seeking drivers licence. The suspects include ringleaders, who were guising as Police officers as well as their brokers. Read more
COVID-19: Eleven arrested for violating curfew
Eleven people were paraded to the media at Remera Metropolitan after they were arrested in City of Kigali for violating the curfew and either lying to the Police or undermining Police orders.
Seven of the suspects were recently caught for violating the curfew and directed to drive their vehicles to the parking lot in Remera, but they disregarded the orders and instead decided to speed off.
Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera, who warned against “disrespecting Police officers and undermining Police orders,” said the escapees were located and arrested separately.
Three other suspects, including a cab driver, were arrested on Tuesday night after they lied to the Police in Nyarugunga that they were rushing to Nyamirambo to pick an expecting mother. Read more
