Police urges public on new directives

Rwanda National Police (RNP) reminds the general public to adhere to the government directives issued as part of the measures adapted to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that the force is working with all relevant institutions to ensure that these measures are implemented and respected.

Under the directives issued by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Dr. Edouard Ngirente, all unnecessary journeys and movements out of homes, and travel between different cities and districts of the country, is not permitted. Read more

Police warns against violation of gov’t orders

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has issued strong warning against members of the public, who violate government orders meant to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that despite awareness on the spread and dangers of the pandemic and subsequent directives on effective measures to combat it, some people have taken it lightly and still pose danger to their lives, households and the country in general, which will not be tolerated. Read more

Sports activities outside homes are prohibited

People conducting sports activities outside their homes are violating government directives on the prevention of coronavirus spread, Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said.

Following the lockdown, many people are seen on streets especially in the morning and evening hours running and riding bikes, among other sports activities, which CP Kabera described as “unnecessary movements.”

“The orders are very clear; people should only move out of their homes when they are going for essential things such as healthcare, foodstuff as well as those authorized to go for varied essential duties,” said CP Kabera. Read more

Service providers urged on compliance

People providing varied essential services have been called upon to comply with safety guidelines so as not to contract or spread coronavirus (COVID-19).

Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that although some people and services are authorized to continue operating, there is need to exercise extra caution to be safe and to protect their clients.

“Traders especially those in markets and shops as well as airtime vendors, among others, are the people who receive and serve many customers every day, and vulnerable,” CP Kabera said. Read more

Drivers warned against using vehicles in 'unauthorized activities'

Rwanda National Police (RNP) reminds drivers of vehicles authorized to operate in the lockdown period to use them “exclusively for the intended essential purposes.”

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that some drivers of authorized vehicles have been found abusing the “pass” and transporting unauthorized people.

“Using these authorized vehicles to transport unauthorized people or using them in other prohibited activities, is a violation of the directives, which will call for immediate action,” he warned. Read more

Over 100 Police officers donate blood

A total of 113 Police officers at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District, on Tuesday, donated blood to boost the national blood bank.

The donors include staff and students at the College, who donated 450 millilitres of blood.

Nine of the blood donors are investigators from Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB).

Commissioner of Police (CP) Christophe Bizimungu, the Commandant of NPC, said that the humanitarian exercise is part of the formal partnership between Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), which started in 2017 to boost the National Centre for Blood Transfusion (NCBT). Read more

Over 7100 pieces of polythene bags seized

Separate Police operations conducted in Gakenke and Huye districts seized over 7164 pieces of banned polythene bags.

The banned non-biodegradable plastic bags were seized from two traffickers, who were also taken into custody.

One of the suspects identified as Justin Niyomugabo, 23, was arrested in Musange village, Mpare cell of Tumba sector in Huye district with 35 cartons of (7000 pieces) polythene bags. Read more

12 arrested in operations against illicit brew

Separate Police operations conducted in different parts of the country led to the arrest of 12 people, who were either distilling or selling illicit brew. 

Sis suspects were arrested in the Eastern Province (Ngoma, Kayonza and Gatsibo), five in the Southern Province (Huye, Nyanza and Nyaruguru) and one in Rutsiro District. At the time, they were found with combined 1,910 litres of assorted illicit drinks.

The operations were in line with fighting trafficking, distilling, selling and abusing narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances as well as implementing the Prime Minister Order on preventing the spread of coronavirus. Read more
