President Kagame: Africa well positioned for global integration
President Paul Kagame has said that with Africa now focusing on cooperation and integration, there are chances the continent will increasingly become globally relevant and produce better outcomes.
Kagame was speaking in Davos, Switzerland at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting at a session dubbed: Africa’s Leadership in the New Global Context with South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa and moderated by World Bank Group Chief Executive Officer Kristalina Georgieva.
Talking about Africa’s readiness to take leadership in changing contexts, Kagame said that the continent is more than ever before concerned about driving integration.
“Africa is talking more and more about integration. There is a realization that if you look at countries individually, even big countries are small when you think about global events,” he said.
This, he said, would see individual countries emerge stronger from various engagements including trade. Read more
WEF19: President Kagame makes case for an institutionally strong Africa
President Paul Kagame has said that the African continent can no longer continue to delegate responsibility for its growth and development to external parties.
Kagame was addressing African Heads of State on Shaping Africa’s Agenda in the Global Context in Davos, Switzerland at the ongoing World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.
He said that more than ever, conditions are ideal to change the status quo and take lead in shaping Africa’s future bringing to end dependence on external actors who often benefit more than the people of the continent.
“The conditions have never been so favorable for Africa to take the lead in shaping its own global agenda. For too long, we ceded responsibility for Africa’s agenda to others, with some individuals even benefitting,” Kagame said.
Kagame who is the current African Union Chairperson said an institutionally weak and economically stagnant Africa is not of benefit to any global stakeholder as has been evidenced by challenges in migration and security among others. Read More
IGP Munyuza Challenges Police officers on performance
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza has called upon police officers to improve their performance and exhibit a high sense of professionalism.
The Police chief also warned officers not to indulge in manners that compromise the image of Rwanda National Police (RNP) but to maintain law and security for persons and their property efficiently to enable the country to move forward.
IGP Munyuza made the remarks on January 22, on a visit to District Police Unit (DPU) of Burera and Gicumbi in the Northern Province.
The visit is to enable the IGP to interact with a cross-section of Police Officers and remind them of their roles in the year ahead.
He thanked them for the previous year’s performance as also acknowledged by President H.E Paul Kagame in his end of year message to all security forces. Read More
Commercial Motorcyclists urged to embrace the use of ICTs
Commercial motorcyclists have been called on to install GPS devices on all taxi motors to prevent irresponsible riding, in the quest to reduce road accidents attributed to these motorcycles.
The commercial riders were also urged to remain vigilant and disassociate from errant colleagues involved in lawlessness like abetting crime and breaking traffic regulations.
The call was made on January 22, by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of operations, Commissioner of Police (CP) Felix Namuhoranye to hundreds of tens of commercial motorcyclists operating in Kigali City at Nyamirambo stadium. Read More
Bugesera: DIGP Marizamunda urges the public to report crime
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in-charge of Administration and Personnel Juvenal Marizamunda has appealed to residents of Bugesera District to join efforts with law enforcement agencies to ensure the security of people and their belongings remains intact.
DIGP Marizamunda, was speaking yesterday to about 5000 residents of Bugesera District during a public forum commonly referred to as Inteko z’abaturage to discuss issues raised by the community concerning their District.
He said, though Police is principally mandated to maintain internal security of persons and their property, collaboration with residents is required to achieve success. Read More
RNP peacekeepers formerly received in CAR
The Rwandan Protection Support Unit (PSU) Contingent has been welcomed to the Central African Republic (CAR) by the MINUSCA Police acting Commissioner and Chief of Operations, Colonel Philippe Garcia
Colonel Philippe made a visit to RWAPSU Camp base MAMICA in Bangui, the Capital City of Central African Republic on 22nd January.
In his welcome remarks, Colonel Garcia welcomed the newly deployed PSU Contingent in CAR and wished them to successfully accomplish their tasks during their period of Service in Peacekeeping mission.
He urged the Contingent to continue working as a team, to serve with Professionalism and Discipline, he expected them to perform with a high degree of excellence as their predecessors who completed their tour of duty recently in the troubled CAR.
He said though CAR was troubled with insecurity, peace shall be realized in the short or long run. Read More
Rwamagana: Police cautions on miners’ safety
At least 14 miners have been confirmed dead in a mining incident which occurred in Rwamagana District police have confirmed.
“I can confirm that a total of 14 persons working at a minefield in Mwurire sector, Ntunga cell Kiyovu village about 52km East of Kigali city have died” Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabere the Police Spokesperson said.
Rwanda investigation Bureau (RIB) has commenced investigations to establish the cause of the incident.
He said the miners were trapped by a landslide during an opencast mining activity belonging to PIRAN Rwanda Ltd mining concession.
The incident occurred on January 21, in Rwamagana District where a hill nearby covered mine workers. Read More
