Namibian President commends cooperation between Rwanda and Namibian Police forces
The President of Namibia, His Excellency Dr Hage G. Geingob has commended the “excellent relations” between Rwanda and Namibian Police forces.
President Geingob made the remarks on Friday while presiding over the official inauguration of the new Headquarters for Namibia Police Force in the capital Windhoek.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza attended the inauguration ceremony at the invitation of his counterpart, Sebastian Ndeitunga.
In his speech, President Hage thanked IGP Munyuza and his delegation for attending the ceremony and for the “valuable and excellent working relations” between Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Namibia Police Force. Read more
State Minister for Interior from Rhineland-Palatinate visits RNP
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza, on Monday, received the State Minister for Interior and Infrastructure from Rhineland-Palatinate, Hon. Randolf Stich at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy IGP in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda.
Their discussions focused mainly on partnership in various areas of policing, including fire and rescue operations, as well as traffic and road safety.
Hon. Stich and his delegation were given an overview of RNP’s history, its current structure in terms of training, deployments both locally and in international peace support operations, community policing and cooperation, among others. Read more
Regional peacekeeping course concludes at Police Training School
The Deputy Inspector of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Felix Namuhoranye, on Friday, presided over the closing of the 9th UN Police Course (UNPOC) at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari with a call for "continuous preparations" to build peacekeeping capabilities for regional police officers.
The two-week course brought together 60 participants from nine Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) member states.
Participants are from Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and Rwanda, the host. Read more
Fighting the use of polythene bags: Six dealers arrested in Nyaruguru
Six people were arrested Thursday in Nyaruguru District for allegedly selling or using outlawed polythene bags.
They were arrested in a trading centre in Rugerero Sector where law enforcement organs and local authorities conducted the operation.
According to Nyaruguru District Police Commander, Supt. Boniface Kagenza, the operation targeted shops, either selling plastic bags or using them for packaging. Read more
KARONGI: Police, Mashirika conduct campaign on child protection
Last Wednesday, Police in Karongi District and Mashirika troupe conducted a campaign in Rubengera Sector to raise awareness on child rights and to fight against child abuse and child labour.
The campaign was conducted under the theme: “Together against violence faced by children and the youth.”
The campaign was characterized by drama on domestic violence and abuses children face and role of community policing and real time information sharing in addressing the problem. Read more
GICUMBI: Police gets tough on drug trafficking rings
In the last two months, strengthened joint operations by law enforcement agencies and local leaders in Gicumbi District led to the arrest of about 120 drug traffickers said to be operating in coordinated rings.
They were arrested mainly in the sectors of Cyumba and Kaniga as they crossed into Rwanda from the neighbouring Uganda with assorted narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said that over 49, 000 rolls of cannabis, 1034 litres of Kanyanga (crude gin) and about 4700 sachets of assorted contrabands with varied brand names such as Chief Waragi, Zebra, Blue Sky and African gin, were seized from the arrested traffickers.
