Minister Gasana, IGP Namuhoranye in Qatar to strengthen cooperation

The Minister of Interior, Alfred Gasana accompanied by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), CG Felix Namuhoranye are in Qatar since Tuesday, January 16, for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation in security and law enforcement between the two countries.

On Wednesday, January 17, Honorable Minister Gasana and H.E Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Minister of Interior and Commander of Lekhwiya Force of Qatar, oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between CG Namuhoranye and the Director-General of Public Security of Qatar, Maj. Gen. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Suwaidi, to formalize partnership on security between institutions under their portfolio.

The cooperation pact outlines partnership in security and crime control, including fighting terrorism, transnational organized crime, human and drug trafficking, trafficking of firearms and explosives, money laundering, cybercrime and corruption, among others.Read more

Female Police officers complete peacekeeping course

Some 110 Rwanda National Police (RNP) female officers completed twelve-day United Nations Peacekeeping pre-deployment course at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari, in Rwamagana District, on Friday January 19. 

The course was organised by RNP in partnership with UN Police and Canada to prepare female Police candidates for the Assessment for Mission Service (AMS) to serve in the UN mission.Read more

Delegation from Burkina Faso visit Rwanda National Police

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, DCG Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza received on Wednesday, January 17, a delegation from Burkina Faso at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters, Kacyiru.

The delegation headed by Medah Martha Céleste Anderson, from the Office of the President, include officials from the President's Office, anti-corruption, and law enforcement agencies, among others.

They are in Rwanda for a week-long and their visit to the RNP aimed at understanding the force's best practices in fighting corruption.Read more

Parents urged to guide their children to prevent them from going on streets

Parents have been encouraged to help their children to make right choices to prevent them from wasting their lives on streets where they end up engaging in lawlessness.

They were further asked to closely follow up and be actively involved in their lives and plans of the children not to become drug abusers and dealer.

ACP Teddy Ruyenzi made the call on Friday, January 19, while addressing about 700 former street children, who have been reintegrated in their families, as well as their parents, held at FAWE school in Gisozi sector, Gasabo District.Read more

Over 12,300 tipped on Gerayo Amahoro

The nationwide Gerayo Amahoro road safety campaign continued this week in different parts of the country where Police officers met over 12,300 road users in an effort to further influence behavioral change on road usage.

The mass road safety education was extended to drivers, taxi-moto operators, commercial cyclists, students and pedestrians.

They were explained on human behaviours that cause road carnage, and urged to adhere to traffic regulations to make roads safer for all.Read more

NGORORERO: Police foils attempt by drug dealers to distribute 5,000 pellets of cannabis

A collaboration between the Police and residents in Ngororero and Rubavu districts led to the arrest of a man on Sunday, January 14, who was transporting about 5,000 pellets of cannabis.

The suspect, who was enroute to Muhanga District, was intercepted midway in Ngororero District, Ngororero sector in Rususa cell, Rususa village. Read more
