[PHOTOS]: Peacekeeping: RNP conduct South Sudan rotation

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Monday, replaced one of its Formed Police Unit (FPU) serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

The FPU II-3 contingent of 160 Police officers under the command of Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Claude Tembo left Kigali International Airport (KIA) at about 6am aboard the national carrier RwandAir to take positions for FPU II-2 commanded by ACP Emmanuel Karasi, which returned home later that morning.

FPU II, which will conduct its peacekeeping duties in the capital Juba, is one of the three Rwandan Police contingents deployed under UNMISS with 560 officers, combined.Read more

‘Hard drugs’ dealer arrested in Kigali

A man suspected of dealing in hard drugs was arrested in the City of Kigali, on Monday.

Hervé Simbare, a Burundian national working with one of the banks, was arrested red-handed with 14 sachets of cocaine.

Hard drugs are described as substances that can cause severe addiction and damage to the user in the shortest period of time. They also include heroin, opium, hydrocodone (Vicodin), oxycodone and benzodiazepines, among others.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie Gorret Umutesi, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said that Simbare was picked from his place of work in the city centre, where the drugs were also recovered. Read more

22 complete emergency response course
 
At least 22 people, on Friday, completed a three-week ‘Firefighting and Rescue’ course at the Police Training Schoo  (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.

Participants were drawn from Rwanda National Police (RNP), Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) and Airport staff.

The emergency response course, the first of its kind, was organized and conducted by Integrated Polytechnic and Regional Centre (IPRC) Gishari in partnership Strategic Fire Solution, a Germany-based firefighting company.

It covered two important aspects; Aircraft and elevator emergencies and response. In particular, the course exhausted areas such as aircraft construction, rescue and firefighting techniques; emergency plan and communication and command.

Others include mechanism of elevators and techniques to rescue passengers. Read more
 
Gatsibo: Man arrested for impersonating police

 
Police in Gatsibo District arrested 31-year-old man on Monday, for allegedly masquerading as a Police officer and extorting unwitting members of the public of their money.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Eastern region Police Spokesperson, said the “suspect and his accomplices still at large, threatened their victims with detention, handcuffed them as they carried out illegal search into their homes.”

The spokesperson said three men were involved in the criminal acts. Musanze: Police seize more skin bleaching products

 
Police in Musanze District have seized yet another batch of skin whitening cosmetics in the ongoing crackdown on such products.

The goods were seized during a security operation conducted on May 2, in Gahunga Sector, Rwasa Cell, Mutara Village along Cyanika-Musanze highway.

According to the Northern Region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alex Rugigana, police seized over 200 pieces of skin whitening products.

Some of the products seized include Peau Claire, Epiderme Crème and Clairemen.

“The seized bleaching creams are listed among 1,342 prohibited brands in Rwanda” CIP Rugigana mentioned.

In November last year, a joint crackdown from the relevant multi-government agency launched a countrywide operation against skin bleaching products.

The institutions involved include Rwanda National Police (RNP), the Ministry of Health as the lead agency, Rwanda Food and Drug Authority, Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) and Rwanda Standards Board (RSB), among others

There are 1,342 cream and oil brands with hydroquinone and mercury, which are prohibited in Rwanda. Read more

Gakenke: Road users reminded to respect traffic rules

Police in Gakenke District have urged drivers, motorcyclists and cyclist to use the road safely to prevent road carnage which in most cases results from recklessness and violation of traffic rules and regulations.

The call was made by the District Police Commander (DPC) for Gakenke, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Viateur Ntiyamira, on Wednesday, while meeting the three categories of road users drawn from Rushashi and Ruli sectors.

The DPC particularly reminded motorcyclists and cyclists to always wear bright clothing or reflector jackets while on the road to avoid being hit especially at night. Read more
