Police Senior Command students begin study tour

Thirty Police students from nine African countries currently attending the 7th Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC), on April 15, began a study tour as part of their one year course at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District.

The students are from Sudan, Namibia, Nigeria, Liberia, South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Central African Republic (CAR) and Rwanda, the host.

On the first day of their internal tour, students visited the Ministry of Justice, where they were received and briefed by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Johnston Busingye, on developments in the justice sector. Read more

[PHOTOS]: Training on road usage among motorcyclists launched

 
Rwanda National Police (RNP), Special Guarantee Fund (SFG) and the Federation of commercial motorcyclists in its French acronym FERWACOTAMO, launched a series of joint road safety education campaign on Tuesday, which mainly focuses on behavioral change and proper road usage among taxi-moto operators.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jean Marie Vianney Ndushabandi, the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety department, while speaking to about 500 motorcyclists, said that motorcycles remain the major cause or involved in fatal accidents.

“Thirty five people have died on motorcycles between January and March this year due to careless and deadly maneuvers, alcohol abuse and over-speeding,” SSP Ndushabandi said. Read More

Man arrested with 77 forged stamps

 
A man said to have been issuing forged documents was arrested on Tuesday in Gitega Sector of Nyarugenge District with forged stamps for at least 77 government and private institutions.

David Kayisire was at the time trying to defraud one of the unsuspecting women, when Police officers, who were trailing all his moves, caught him red-handed.

Among the stamps he was found with include those of commercial banks like Bank of Kigali, Equity Bank and Banque Populaire du Rwanda. Others include courts, national land centre, Police Traffic and Road Safety Department, hospitals; universities and secondary schools, among many others.

He was also found with varied forged documents including those of the University of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK), Kigali Institute of Management (KIM), Muhima hospital, receipts for various institutions, birth certificates and public insurance—Mutuelle du santé.

Kayisire, while speaking to the media on Wednesday, admitted to the crime, and narrated how he was conducting the criminal acts. Read more

Musanze: Private security companies advised on professional guards


Police in Musanze have urged managers of private security firms operating in the district to be vigilant and work with other security organs to exchange information on suspected criminals.

Police said private security service providers must ensure that proper vetting is conducted as well as effective monitoring of the operations of their personnel.

The call was made by the Northern region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alex Rugigana while meeting owners and managers of private security firms operating in Musanze town on Wednesday.Read more

Nyagatare: Governor calls for stronger community policing

 
The Governor of the Eastern Province, Fred Mufurukye has called upon local leaders in Nyagatare District to get closer to the people and work with them on all aspects of security and development.

He made the call this Thursday during the meeting that brought together local leaders and opinion leaders from all the eight sectors of Nyagatare.

The meeting was also attended by the Regional Police Commander-Eastern, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Emmanuel Hatari and the Mayor of Nyagatare, Mushabe Claudian.

Governor Mufurukye reminded the local leaders that the more they get closer and work with the residents the more they will understand issues they face in terms of security and other services they need. Read more
