Fear COVID-19 not Police
Rwanda National Police (RNP) has called upon residents of Rwanda to fear the pandemic of the COVID-19 and abide by all measures meant to prevent its spread, instead of fearing the police thus exposing themselves to the deadly virus.
"Police will arrest or penalise you but COVID-19 will put your life at risk and probably kill you. Adhering to all covid-19 prevention measures is the only cure we currently have," CP Kabera observed. Read more
KIGALI: Police arrest four for vandalizing electricity pylons
Rwanda National Police (RNP) has arrested four men in City of Kigali in connection with vandalizing electricity pylons causing power outage.
The quartet was showed to the media on Friday, January 15, at the Police metropolitan headquarters in Remera.
They include one Edson Uwitonze, who was allegedly buying and selling metal pieces stolen from pylons; Emmanuel Muhirwa, a taxi-moto operator, who was allegedly transporting thieves and metal pieces taken from pylons; Samuel Ndayizeye, one of the suspected thieves vandalizing the powerlines; and one Eric Kubwimana, who was linking thieves to dealers in metals or scraps. COVID-19: 17 caught in house party drinking
Police and local leaders in Kicukiro District, in the morning of Sunday, January 10, arrested 17 people in Kanserege, Kagarama Sector where they had spent a night in a house party drinking.
Their actions are contrary to the government directives, which among others, prohibits social gatherings as one of the measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.
The violators, all youth, came from different parts of Kigali.Read more
Ngororero: Police recovers stolen items
Police in Ngororero District, on Friday, January15, recovered some of the items, which were stolen from a resident of Nyamweru village, Gaseke Sector in Kabaya Sector, when thieves broke into the house.
Assorted items including money, foodstuff, building materials and a mattress were stolen from the house of Josiane Nyiransabimana earlier that morning.
Some of the stolen items including building materials and one mattress were recovered from one of the suspected thieves identified as Jean Claude Uwihoreye, 26, who was also taken into custody. Read more
Rubavu: Couple intercepted with over 2400 pellets of cannabis
As the fight against trafficking, distributing and abusing narcotics continues, the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) arrested a couple in Rubavu District on Wednesday, January 13, with 2,480 pellets of cannabis.
The arrest of Alice Mureshyankwano, 26, and her husband only identified as Ndayisenga, 32, in Rwaza Cell of Rugerero Sector came a day after three other people were also intercepted with 3,450 rolls of cannabis and less than a week after other two people were arrested in the same district with over 1000 pellets of narcotics. Police impersonator arrested in Rubavu
A man, who was impersonating the commander for Nyamyumba Police station in Rubavu District and defrauding unwitting members of the public, has been arrested.
Callixte Rwasubutare, 52, was arrested on January 12, in Rubona Cell, Nyambyumba Sector alongside his co-conspirator identified as Innocent Iranzi, 37.
According to the Police spokesperson for the Western region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the duo was arrested after defrauding a local resident identified as Fabien Habiyaremye, of Frw20, 000. Read more
Anti-Narcotics Unit arrest more major drug dealers
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) has arrested two other people in Rubavu districts suspected to be major drug dealers.
The suspects identified as Faida Bernadette, 53, and Janvier Dushimimana, 30, were arrested separately on January 11, in Gikombe Cell of Rubavu Sector with 2,600 pellets of cannabis.
Their arrest came few days after two other people were also arrested in Rubavu with 1000 rolls of cannabis. Read more
Nyaruguru: Six intercepted smuggling sacks of clothes
Security organs in Nyaruguru District, on January 10, intercepted six men in Cyahinda Sector, Rutobwe Cell carrying six sacks of smuggled second hand clothes.
The sacks smuggled into Rwanda from Burundi weighed 145kgs.
Those arrested include one Callixte Kayigire, 36, who had hired four others men to transport the smuggled goods.
The sixth suspect is a member of the local community night patrol, who was allegedly facilitating the smugglers to beat security. Read more
