IGP Namuhoranye holds talks with Sudan, Seychelles police chiefs

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), CG Felix Namuhoranye, on Wednesday, August 12, held separate bilateral talks with the Inspector General of Sudan Police, Lt Gen Amir Abdel Moneim Fadl, and the Commissioner of Police of Seychelles, CP Godfra Henry Hermitte, on the sidelines of the International Security Conference for Africa (ISCA) underway in Kigali.

The talks focused on strengthening police cooperation, particularly in capacity building, professional development, information sharing and combating transnational crime.  Read More...

DIGP Ujeneza briefs 160 police officers preparing for UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, DCG Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza, on Monday, August 10, briefed 160 police officers preparing to deploy to South Sudan for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

The briefing was held at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru, ahead of the officers’ deployment to Malakal, Upper Nile State, where they will replace a contingent that has completed a one-year deployment.

DCG Ujeneza reminded the officers that they will represent Rwanda and urged them to uphold professionalism, discipline and teamwork, while respecting the culture of the people they will serve and work with.  Read More...

Operations against substandard alcoholic beverages target suspected involvement of 17 public officials

The Rwanda National Police (RNP), in collaboration with the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), on Thursday, August 13, presented 17 public officials suspected of involvement in the production and distribution of substandard alcoholic beverages seized during ongoing enforcement operations.

The suspects were presented at RIB Headquarters in Kimihurura, Kigali. They include 10 employees of the Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (Rwanda FDA), three employees of the Rwanda Standards Board (RSB), and local government officials from Gisagara and Karongi districts, including executive secretaries at sector and cell levels.

The development is part of ongoing nationwide operations against illicit and substandard alcoholic beverages aimed at protecting public health and addressing related security and social concerns.  Read More...

Police warn against keeping, selling illicit alcoholic beverages

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) has warned against keeping, selling or consuming illicit and substandard alcoholic beverages, as nationwide enforcement operations continue to remove prohibited products from communities.

The warning was issued on Wednesday, August 12, during an exercise to destroy illicit alcoholic beverages seized from industries and points of sale across Kigali. The exercise is part of a nationwide campaign targeting the production, distribution, sale and consumption of prohibited alcoholic beverages.

The products include illicit spirits locally known as ibyuma, substandard imported alcoholic beverages and other products made through unauthorised or improper processes.  Read More...
