EAPCCO GAMES: IGP Munyuza calls for early preparations
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza has commended the general performance of teams that participated in the third edition of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) games, which concluded last week in Nairobi, Kenya.
Rwanda National Police (RNP) came second in the general classification of the regional annual law enforcement tournament with 46 medals in total, including 27 gold medals, six silver and 13 bronze.
While meeting all teams at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru, on Wednesday, IGP Munyuza thanked them for their commitment and discipline during the week-long tournament and urged them to “build on your performance for future excellence.”
Rwanda will host next year’s tournament, and IGP Munyuza called for “early preparations.” Read more
South Sudan: Rwandan peacekeepers join locals to clean Juba
Rwandan Police and military peacekeepers serving under the United Nation Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) joined residents of Juba in a communal work--Umuganda--to clean-up the capital.
The peacekeepers included those serving as Formed Police Units (FPUs), Individual Police Officers (IPOs) and Rwandan military battalions deployed in Juba.
Umuganda was organized in partnership with Juba Town Council under the theme: "Make Juba clean, safe, health and preserve natural ecosystem."
The communal work was also attended by the Special Representative of the Secretary General to UNMISS, David Shearer and the Mayor of Juba, Shemir Khamis. Read more
Head-teachers welcome road safety education in schools
Head-teachers have welcomed the extension of road safety campaign in schools saying that it will help to enlighten students on traffic rules and regulations and grow up with positive attitude on safe road usage as pedestrians and drivers.
Rwanda National Police (RNP), National Commission for Children (NCC) and the association of owners of driving schools in Rwanda (ANPAER), mid last month, launched the road safety education in schools. The two-month campaign is expected to reach 2, 379 primary and 1, 647 secondary schools across the country. Read more
Road Safety tips during this rainyseason
The rainy season is here. Whereas this is a good sign to some people like farmers, it can be a hazard for motorists if no precaution is taken.
“It is always advisable to take extra caution when it is raining or after it has rained. Besides dealing with heavy downpour, drivers also have to contend with likely strong winds, which call for one to exercise caution when driving in such weather,” said Commissioner of Police (CP) Rafiki Mujiji, the Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety department. Nyamasheke: Police intercepts vehicle trafficking skin bleaching products
Police in Nyamasheke District, last Thursday, impounded a vehicle loaded with 240 boxes of assorted skin bleaching products.
The vehicle, RAD 131U was intercepted at a check-point that was mounted in Gisakura Sector.
The banned skin bleaching products had been trafficked into the country through an illegal border, and was being transported to Kigali. Read more
Gisagara: Students, teachers urged to combat crimes
Students and teachers of Groupe Scolaire Gisagara A in Gisagara District have been urged to play their role in combating crimes especially those that affect youth development.
The call was made on Friday by the District Police Political and Civic Education Officer (DPCEO) Inspector of Police (IP) Innocent Nshimiyimana while speaking to about 250 students of Groupe Scolaire Gisagara A and their teachers.
IP Nshimiyimana said that Rwanda National Police (RNP) cannot fight crimes alone adding that students and teachers should be community policing agents. Read more
Suspected conman arrested in Gasabo
Police in Gasabo District arrested a man identified as Narcisse Sindikubwabo in connection with defrauding members of the public promising to help them acquire a driving license.
Sindikubwabo, 34, was arrested Thursday in Kinyinya Sector, Gasharu Cell following information that he was conning unsuspecting members of the public assuring of getting them driver’s license.
One of the victims disclosed that Sindikubwabo conned her of Rwf500, 000. Read more
