Presidential inauguration was incident-free – Police

Rwanda national (RNP) has said that the August 18, presidential inaugural function was flawless and without any incident.

Police confirmed that even the ensuing merrymaking happened in an atmosphere of tranquillity and that the crowds were blissful and orderly across the country.

Three held for vandalizing electric pylons worth Rwf52m

Police in Gatsibo District are holding three people in connection with vandalizing electric pylons that they sell as scrap metals.

The three suspects who are held at Kabarore Police station are, Jean Pierre Nsengiyumva, Evariste Hakiza and Laetitia. They are accused of vandalizing five electric pylons weighing over 500kgs that had been rolled out by NPD Cotraco.

Of the three, Nsengiyumva and Hakiza were the main thieves and could dismantle the pylons and sell the pieces to Urimubandi who deals in scrap metal business. Read more

Police busts drug traffickers with 100ks of cannabis stashed in cassava flour

Police in Rusizi District have arrested two men who were trafficking 100kg of cannabis stashed in sacks of cassava flour and using Toyota Corolla and a surveillance motorcycle to transport the drugs to Nyamagabe District.  

The suspects who are currently held at Gasaka police station are Dominique Savio Munyaneza the owner of the Toyota Corolla with RAB 422 F that carried the sacks of cassava flour with cannabis stashed inside, and Evariste Ntawusigimana who was riding ahead on surveillance motorcycle with plate number RCA 804 M. [PHOTOS]: Police recovers Rwf13.5 million stolen from travel agency

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has recovered Rwf13.5million that was stolen from Waheguru Travels Ltd in Nyarugenge District, on Wednesday.

The money was recovered on Thursday from one Livingstone Twahirwa, a marketing officer of Waheguru Travels Ltd, the prime suspect, police said.

Twahirwa was intercepted in Kayonza District, where he was hiding. Read more

At exactly 04:12pm yesterday, a passenger plane carrying extradited genocide fugitive Jean Twagiramungu touched down at Kigali International Airport, marking the end of the suspect’s battles against  his extradition from the Germany.

Twagiramungu is accused of crimes of Genocide and extermination as a crime against humanity which he allegedly committed in the former Gikongoro Prefecture, now part of the Southern Province.

His extradition came two years after his arrest.

Upon arrival at the airport, Twagiramungu was taken to the Airport offices  where he was served with a new arrest warrant, given a lawyer in accordance with the relevant legal provisions and his rights read out before judicial police officers started questioning him. Read more

RNP hands over Kenyan stolen and recovered vehicle

Rwanda National Police (RNP) on August, 18, handed over a Kenyan vehicle that was stolen and recovered in Rwanda.

The vehicle whose original registration numbers were KCG 780W is believed to have been stolen in Kenya and transported to the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was later recovered in Rwanda bearing Congolese registration numbers 2174AC/20. Read more
