COVID-19: Over 70 caught in prohibited sports activities in Rubavu
Police and local authorities in Rubavu District caught 74 people on Friday, September 18, after they were found in prohibited sports activities on the shore of Lake Kivu.
Majority of the violators were the youth, some of whom were at the time found playing football while others engaged in varied sports disciplines. Read more
Rubavu: Fraudster arrested selling resident's forest to two different people
A suspected scammer was arrested on Wednesday, September 16, in Rubavu District for allegedly selling trees in the forest owned by a local resident in Kanzenze Sector.
Cyprien Ndahayo, 45, who was also masquarading as a medical worker, allegedly defrauded two other people selling them the trees, separately. Read more
COVID-19: 27 caught in bar drinking
In an operation to oversee the compliance of COVID-19 prevention measures in Nyagatare district on September 15, Police and local leaders caught 27 people in a bar drinking, in Katabagemo sector, Rugoma cell, drinking.
This was contrary to the government directives, which requires all bars to be closed in this period of the pandemic.
According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, the violators were also congested with no social distancing while others were drinking illicit brew known in the area as ‘Cungumuntu.' Read more
2000 pieces of polythene bags seized from trafficker in Nyagatare
Police in Nyagatare District seized 2000 pieces of non-biodegradable plastic bags from the trafficker identified as Juma Mugisha.
Mugisha, 20, was intercepted with the outlawed products in the night of Friday, September 18, in Rwagikunengwa Village of Gataba Cell in Kiyombe Sector. Read more
Rubavu: Woman arrested with fake US$3,700
Police in Rubavu District, Gisenyi Sector, on Monday September 14, arrested 26 year-old Claire Muhawenimana, with counterfeit dollar notes amounting to US$3,700, approximately Rwf3.6 million.
The 37 fake currency notes were in the denominations of US$100. Read more
