COVID-19: Police warns over forging movement clearance messages
Rwanda National Police (RNP) issued stern warning against people, who forge or alter movement clearance messages.
The warning follows fake messages circulating on social platforms.
Rwanda National Police spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that individuals behind such forgeries will be located and brought to justice.
"It has been observed that some people forge or alter messages issued by Rwanda National Police to those cleared to go for essential services in this period when movements from homes are restricted to prevent the spread of Coronavirus," said CP Kabera.
"These misleading forgeries will not go unnoticed. Anyone caught in such criminal acts will face the appropriate consequences as the law stipulates," he added. Read more
COVID-19: Drones making headways in public awareness
As Rwanda National Police (RNP) continues to raise awareness on government directives and safer practices against coronavirus, residents in parts of City of Kigali believe that using drones has helped to spread the message in their homes.
RNP started using drones a fortnight ago in its public awareness and enforcement, to supplement other measures such as use of social media platforms and other media channels as well as Police vehicles mounted with public sound systems.
According to local leaders, Kigali dwellers and traders, drones have impacted on how people behave and exercise safer practices today in relation to preventing the spread of the virus.
“We used to go jogging every evening as a family, we didn’t know that it was also prohibited, but we heard the message on the drone which was hovering over our home,” said Charles Iyaremye from Kibagabaga. Read more
Over 900 litres of illicit substances seized
Separate Police operations targeting people distilling illicit brew in City of Kigali seized over 900 litres of assorted substances.
The substances were seized from three distillers and dealers on Friday in the three districts of Gasabo, Kicukiro and Nyarugenge. Read more
Two motorcycles, vehicle intercepted trafficking plastic bags
A vehicle and two motorcycles were impounded on Tuesday in Burera and Muhanga districts, respectively, after they found carrying varied quantities of outlawed plastic bags.
Four people including the driver, rider and two other people, who were aboard the vehicle, were also arrested.
In Muhanga District, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Sylvestre Twajamahoro, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, said that the two motorcycles RD 318F and RB 213V were intercepted in Rongi sector, Karambo cell with combined 12, 000 pieces of polythene bags.
In Burera District, a vehicle RAA 649G was intercepted in Gahunga Sector, Rwasa Cell with three sacks of the non-biodegradable products. Read more
