RUBAVU: Police recovered Rwf4.4 million stolen from businessman
Police in Rubavu District recovered money amounting to about Rwf4.4 million, which was stolen from a businessman in Nyabihu District.
The money was recovered early Saturday from the suspected thief identified as Hafashimana alias Jado, who was intercepted in Bugeshi Sector.
Hafashimana stole the money from one Dirigeant Hitayezu after breaking into his car and stole the bag, which contained the money and other personal belongings. Read more
COVID-19: Safety is your personal responsibility
Rwanda National Police (RNP) reminded the general public to adhere to the government directives issued as part of the measures adopted to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The cabinet meeting resolutions of April 30, stated that starting on May 4, the new guidelines had to be followed.
The guidelines said that acceptable movements whether by public, private transport or pedestrian resume only within provinces and in City of Kigali. Crossing one province to another is not acceptable. People must wear a face-mask in public at all times; they have to practice social distancing in markets, shops, restaurants, hotels, buses, and while walking; Motorcycles and bicycles are not permitted to carry passengers. Three arrested with narcotic drugs
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), on Thursday, arrested three people said to be part of the same chain that traffics and distributes narcotic drugs in Rubavu District.
The suspects were arrested in Rugerero Sector in possession of 1000 pellets of cannabis. Read more
COVID-19: 25 intercepted traveling to Northern Province
At least 25 people were arrested on May 7, after they were intercepted traveling to the Northern Province from City of Kigali.
Their actions are contrary to the government directives on preventing the spread of noval Coronavirus, which partly prohibits people from going beyond provices and City of Kigali, where they are.
Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, said the suspects were traveling in two separate buses when they were stopped in Kanyinya, Nyarugenge District.
"The suspects include the drivers of the two coasters. Some of their passengers had breached the government directives to get to Kigali from varied districts in the Eastern and Southern provinces, while others were from Kigali," CP Kabera said. Read more
Over 20 arrested over illegal fishing in Lake Muhazi
Twenty-one people were arrested over illegal fishing activities in Lake Muhazi in Kayonza District.
They were arrested in two separate operations conducted on May 4th and 5th. The suapects were, among other unlawful fishing activities, using substandard fishing nets, Police said.
"The operations conducted by the Police and local leaders aimed at fighting the increasing cases of illegal fishing and use of destructive fishing gears in Lake Muhazi," Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for Eastern Region, said. Read more
BURERA: Seven arrested trafficking 160200 pieces of plastic bags
Seven people were arrested in Burera District with 801 cartons (160200 pieces) of banned polythene bags.
Police said the traffickers were intercepted in Cyanika Sector, Kamanyana Cell in Majyambere Village with consignments of the banned non-biodegradable bags after sneaking them into the country from Uganda through a porous border. Read more
Kicukiro: 14 stolen school computers recovered
Law enforcement organs in Kicukiro District recovered 14 laptop computers on May 3, which were stolen from Kagarama Secondary School.
At least 15 laptop computers and other items were stolen from the school computer laboratory and offices on separate occasions.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie-Gorette Umutesi, the Police spokesperson for City of Kigali, said that five people, all casual workers at the school located in Kagarama Sector, have been arrested in connection with the criminal act. Read more
