INTERPOL cancels the diffusions earlier issued by Spain against 40 Rwandans

On 18 Nov, 2015, the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Madrid-Spain sent a message to all 190 Interpol member countries to cancel the diffusion it had earlier issued against 40 Rwandans.

 Subsequent to the judgment by the Spanish Supreme Court to which dismissed 40 indictments against Rwandans, the NCB Madrid has played its role of requesting other NCB to disregard the diffusions.

 This follows the Interpol clearance of each individual of the 40 Rwandans by issuing a certificate in June 2012 signifying that the persons in question are not subject of Interpol Red notice. Read more

RNP issues statement on stray dogs

Rwanda National Police (RNP) informed the general public that stray dogs are not allowed to roam on streets and in communities, all domestic animals must be under full control of owners.

This was, therefore, to remind owners of dogs to observe the ministerial order No. 009/11.30 of 18/11/2010 on animal husbandry as stipulated under its articles 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, to prevent the insecurity that such animals would otherwise cause.

These articles underline the requirements and procedures to own a dog, penalties to owners of abandoned dogs and action taken against stray dogs. Read more

Revenue Protection Unit intercepts truck smuggling 10 tons of coffee

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Revenue Protection Unit, on November 14, intercepted a truck loaded with 10 tons coffee that was being smuggled to Uganda.

Drocella Mukashyaka, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Taxpayer Services at Rwanda Revenue Authority said the Ugandan-registered truck had brought goods into the country and was bound to return back empty “but decided to load coffee beans without papers.”

“We learnt about the possible smuggling of coffee and the Revenue Protection Unit, through its investigators acted swiftly and intercepted the truck that was loaded without customs papers,” said Mukashyaka. Read more

Suspected motorcycle thieves arrested

Police in Kicukiro District arrested two members of the same family in connection with stealing a motorcycle from Rubavu district.

The suspects identified as Shafiq Nshimiyumukuza 24 and his cousin brother Issac Nsenga were arrested on Sunday evening after police received a tip off from taxi-moto operator in the area that the duo were in the process of dismantling and selling the spare parts of the motorcycle. Read more

Over 130 CPCs trained on crime prevention

Community Policing Committees (CPCs) totaling to over 130 from Nyabihu and Musanze districts received training to improve their capacity in providing quality safety and security in communities.

In Musanze, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), IP Sauda Mujawamariya, during a one-day training on November 16, said: “As important partners in crime prevention, you are called to work with residents and encourage to uphold the vision of togetherness, safety and collective safety.” Read more

Muslim community tipped on fighting Human Trafficking

As the Rwanda National Police awareness against the crime of human trafficking in Rwanda continues, the Muslim community was urged to partake in the fight and strengthen partnership with the law enforcers and other Rwandans to hold the mantle against the modern-day slavery by passing over the message to their congregation.

While speaking to about 120 members of the Muslim community majority the youth drawn from different parts of the Eastern Province, on November 16 in Rwamagana District, AIP Goreth Uwimana embarked on the role of every Rwandan and religious denominations in particular, to fight human trafficking and crime prevention in general. Road safety awareness continued in Ngororero and Rubavu

Drivers and tax-moto operators in Ngororero and Rubavu districts were on November 17 reminded of their obligation to reinforce road safety by observing road traffic rules and regulations to prevent likely fatal accidents that mostly involve and caused by vehicles and motorcycles.

 While speaking to vehicle owners and drivers in Ngororero, the District Police Commander, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marc Minani observed that some drivers are fond of not relying on roadside safety signposts and overtake in sharp corners and use phones while driving, which leads to deadly accidents and loss of lives.
