COVID-19: You can now apply for 'movement clearance' online

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has easied the process of acquiring movement clearence for anyone seeking to go for "essential services."

The online application for the movement clearance is part of the measures to fight and prevent the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, said the RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera. 

"You can now apply for the movement clearance to go for essential services, online. The essential services are shopping for food, banking services, pharmacy, medical, funeral and emergencies," CP Kabera said. 

The applicant can log on to www.mc.gov.rw or dial *127# and follow the prompts. Read more

COVID-19: Police warns over abuse of call centre, five arrested

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has started operations to arrest people, who abuse toll-free emergency lines especially 114 and 112, thus obstructing and affecting those in need of emergency services related to Coronavirus.

At least five people have so far been arrested in different parts of the country for allegedly abusing the lines with “insult and prank calls.”  Those arrested were paraded to the media at Remera metropolitan, on Thursday.

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera warned that anyone, who obstructs national emergency response efforts to save lives, will be located and brought to justice. Read more

Nyaruguru: Local leader arrested over self-administered justice

Police in Nyaruguru District arrested Valens Kayigamba, the executive secretary for Nyamirama Cell in Ngoma Sector, in connection with assaulting residents whom he accused of witchcraft. 

Kayigamba is one of the three ringleaders connected to the violent assault of a 95 year old woman and her two daughters, on April 23. Law enforcement organs are still searching for other two ringleaders, including Sibomana and one Evariste Minani. Read more

COVID-19: Over 40 arrested in bars, shops drinking

Forty-two people were arrested in different bars, shops and homes in City of Kigali where they were found drinking and holding prohibited gatherings.

Those arrested include owners of bars and shops as well as their customers who were found inside drinking; footballers who were holding illegal gathering and drinking in Kimihurura; and five men, who were found in the same car with a crate of beer and drunk.

Also detained is a medical doctor, who was arrested alongside six others after they were found drinking at a bar in Busanza, Kanombe Sector in Kicukiro District. Some of the arrested shop owners had rooms inside where they would hide their drinking customers. Read more

Rubavu: Man arrested for killing neighbour's cow

Police in Rubavu District arrested a man identified as Jean Pierre Sibomana, 35, for allegedly killing a cow belonging to his neighbour.

They are residents of Rwamikungu Village, Nyamikongi Cell, Kanzenze Sector in Rubavu District. 

Sibomana alias Kazungu, was intercepted in Cyanzarwe while fleeing, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said. Read more

Gisagara: Police seize 4,400 pieces of smuggled plastic bags

Police in Gisagara District seized 4,400 pieces of banned non-biodegradable plastic bags.

The polythene bags were seized recently from the trafficker identified as Gerald Ntukabumwe, 38, in Nyanza Sector. 

According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Sylvestre Twajamahoro, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, the plastic bags were seized due to information given by residents.

“Police officers were conducting their regular duties when they were informed about illegal selling of plastic bags done by this trader. When they searched his shop they found 4,400 pieces of plastic bags concealed in other goods. He was selling them and using them as package,” CIP Twajamahoro explained. Read more
