IGP Munyuza emphasizes regional practical cooperation against transnational crimes
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza said that the region will be safe from cross border and organized crimes particularly through continued and concerted efforts, collaboration and being proactive in daily operational tasks.
IGP Munyuza was speaking in Arusha, Tanzania while attending the 6th East African Community (EAC) partner states Chiefs of Police meeting to discuss major security concerns in the region.
IGP Munyuza, who chaired proceedings of the meeting, said that coming together "confirm that we all want our EAC region to be safe and secure to enable development."
"Transnational crimes and other security challenges we face in our region need everybody’s attention and effort, if meaningful peace and security is to be guaranteed in our region," IGP Munyuza said. Read more
UN decorates Rwandan female dominated contingent in South Sudan
The, on Thursday, decorated 187 Rwandan Police peacekeepers serving in its mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) with the ‘UN Service Medal of Honor.’
Those decorated include a female dominated Rwanda Formed Police Unit Three (RWAFPU-3) contingent of 160 officers deployed in June last year, and 27 officers serving as Individual Police Officers (IPOs).
UNMISS Deputy Special Representative of Secretary General (DSRSG), Mustapha Soumare thanked the Government of Rwanda for the continued commitment to international peace and empowering women to be part of peacekeeping.
“The collective efforts of both Rwanda FPU and IPOs are essential to the success of UNMISS. It’s remarkable and a pride to see women standing with their brothers, an evident that your response to this appeal has been nothing short of world leading” Soumare said.
In her remarks, RWAFPU-3 contingent commander Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Teddy Ruyenzi thanked His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda for “believing in women and to contribute a female FPU, and for having confidence in us.” Read more
RNP, REMA in campaign against vehicle emission
Fuel emissions from vehicles rank amongst the worst air pollutants. Transportation is the largest single source of air pollution globally leading to climate change.
The principal greenhouse gases associated with road transport are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O).
Nonetheless, most motorists drive through roads not aware of the impact of exhaust fumes on the environment and people’s health.
In an effort to address the problem, Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) launched a campaign last Wednesday to further raise awareness on air pollution and control vehicle emissions. Read more
Three arrested in crackdown on Police impersonators
Rwanda National Police (RNP) on Friday paraded three men, who were arrested for allegedly masquerading as Police officers and defrauding people of their money promising to give them driver's license.
At the time of their arrest, they had already collected more than Rwf1 million from various people. Read more
Rwamagana: Man arrested with counterfeit money
Police in Rwamagana District arrested a man on Thursday after he attempted to deposit fake Euros amounting to £2500, in the bank.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana said that Peter Habumugisha was at the time trying to deposit the fake notes at a local commercial bank branch in Kigabiro Sector.
“Police was called by the bank management after they detected that the Euro notes Habumugisha was trying to deposit were all counterfeit,” CIP Twizeyimana said. Read more
Gerayo Amahoro: Pedestrians decry motorists’ behaviours on road
Pedestrians have blamed motorists for being the major cause of most road accidents, due to their reckless driving.
They claim that drivers often ignore the speed-limits and drive through zebra crossings with impunity.
This was mentioned by different pedestrians on Monday, when Rwanda National Police started the third week of ‘Gerayo Amahoro (arrive safely) campaign with focus on educating pedestrians on road safety rules and particularly their rights to prevent road carnage.
Most pedestrians, who spoke decried reckless motorists, saying they contribute to the biggest number of accidents that claim lives of pedestrians.Read more
