Rwanda National Police opens new automobile inspection centres

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Friday, November 20, officially opened three new Automobile Inspection Centres in other provinces, as the force continues to improve and extend related services closer to the people.

The new automobile inspection facilities worth over Frw3 billion, built in less than two years, are in the Southern Province (Huye town), Northern Province (Musanze town) and Eastern Province (Rwamagana town).

Each facility has two fixed lanes with the capacity to inspect at least 200 vehicles per day. Read more


Rwanda National Police receives arms crushing machine

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Thursday, November 19, received a shear arms crushing machine from the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA), to facilitate in the destruction of obsolete firearms.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Adminiatration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda received the environmental friendly machine from RECSA Executive Secretary, Lt. Gen. Badreldin Elamin Abdelgadir at the function held at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru. Read more


KIGALI: Police breaks robbery ring

Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested five people, who are members of the same ring suspected to be behind series of robberies targeting mainly supermarkets and banking agents in different parts of the country.

The quintet was arrested in City of Kigali in separate operations conducted on Saturday and Sunday. They were paraded before the media at the Police metropolitan headquarters in Remera, on Monday, November 16. Read more


Vehicle intercepted smuggling bales of clothes

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Sunday, November 15, intercepted a vehicle in Kigali carrying six bales of used clothes commonly known as Caguwa, which had been smuggled into the country through a porous border.

The Congolese registered Toyota Noah, registration number CGO 7097AE/19, was being driven by one Esther Mbabazi, the alleged owner of the smuggled goods, who was also arrested. It was intercepted on Sunday morning at Giticyinyoni as the smuggler entered Kigali from Rubavu District. Read more


KIGALI: Nyarugenge youth vounteers reignite security and development activities

Members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) from Nyarugenge District held their congress on November 15, to review their volunteerism activities, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The congress presided over by Nyarugenge District Executive Administrator (DEA) Emmy Ngabonziza, brought together youth coordinators from cell to district level in Nyarugenge. Read more


Rubavu: Drug trafficker intercepted guising as student

A suspected drug trafficker was arrested in Gihonga Cell of Busasamana Sector, Rubavu District where she was guising as a student so as to beat security.

Josiane Umulisa, 25, who was wearing a school uniform, was at the time trafficking 1000 pellets of cannabis in a school bag when she was identified and arrested on Thursday, November 19. Read more


Nyagatare: Four suspected burglars arrested

Police in Nyagatare District arrested four people in connection with the recent burglary in Rwimiyaga Sector where assorted electronics were stolen from a shop.

The burglary occurred in the night of October 16, when thieves vandalized the door lock of the electronic shop owned by one Donat Sinigenga, 25, located in Rwimiyaga trading centre.

Among the items that were stolen there were two computers, 30 mobile phones including 10 smart phones, 10 radio receivers, 20 memory cards and 10 phone chargers. Read more


Mobile banking agent caught with counterfeit money

A mobile banking agent in Rurembo Village of Cyanya Cell in Kigabiro Sector, Rwamagana District was arrested on Tuesday, November 17, with counterfeit money amounting to Frw100, 000.

Jean Luc Mutabazi, 28, was arrested after he allegedly duped one of his clients identified as Alphonse Kalisa, 37, with fake bills worth Frw10, 000, in the denominations of Frw5, 000. Read more


Major drug dealer caught with 3000 rolls of cannabis

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) arrested one Alphonse Dushimimana, 37, in Byahi Cell of Rubavu Sector in Rubavu District with 3000 pellets of cannabis.

Dushimimana was apprehended red-handed on Sunday, November 15, following information shared by a local resident, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said. Read more
