Think beyond monetary gains, DIGP Marizamunda tells transporters

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda has told transporters to “think beyond just monetary gains” but rather look at safety as a sustainable means to progress.

DIGP Marizamunda made the remarks on Wednesday while presiding over the training of operation and logistic managers of local transport companies, at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.

He reminded the operations and logistics managers that their understanding of these challenges is the first step in finding solutions and resolving causes of avoidable accidents. Read more

Police officers complete maritime operations course


Thirty marine Police officers graduated Friday after completing a two-month comprehensive maritime operations training on Lake Kivu.

The course enabled officers to acquire basic marine skills and knowledge, including navigation, swimming, maintenance of marine equipment such as engine, and saving lives, among others.

Commissioner of Police (CP) George Rumanzi, the Commissioner for Operations and Public Order in Rwanda National Police (RNP), while closing the training in Rubavu District, lauded both trainers and trainees for the great work done professionally, discipline and hard work to accomplish the course. Rusizi: Police donate traditional dancing costumes

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has donated dancing costumes to Inyamibwa, a traditional dancing troupe of Bweyeye Sector in Rusizi District.

The troupe with 60 members, use traditional dance as, partly, their source of income, and entertains mainly tourists.

While handing over the traditional dancing costumes on Wednesday, the Western Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (CP) Rogers Rutikanga called upon residents to embrace the prevailing peace and security by working to economic progress. Read more

Police officers complete ‘instruction’ courses at PTS


Sixty-five Police officers, on Friday, completed two parallel instruction courses at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.

The fifth parallel intakes, which lasted for three months, constitute 33 junior officers who completed the ‘Instructional Technology Course (ITC) and 32 Non-Commissioned Officers in ‘Methods of Instruction (MOI) course’

The Instruction Technology Course covers syllabus and course design, test and measurement, micro-teaching, research technology, development of instructional aid, field trip and effective communication. Read more

Gishari: Police Officers, Security personnel acquire fire safety skills

Last week, Rwanda National Police (RNP) through the Fire and Rescue Brigade started a two-month training on fire safety at the IPRC-Gishari.

57 participants including Police Officers, Rwanda Correction Service (RCS) officers and security personnel from private security companies are undertaking the fire safety training.

While opening the two-month training, the Principal for IPRC-Gishari, SSP David Kabuye urged the trainees to give the course due importance, put to use the acquired skills and extend the skills to others. Read more

Gicumbi: Police seize 125kgs of trafficked plastic bags

Police in Gicumbi District seized 125kgs of plastic bags that were being trafficked into the country from the neighboring Uganda, through porous borders.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said the non-biodegradable products were seized Friday from two suspects in Cyumba Sector, Rwankonjo Cell, Kagera Village. Read more

Gakenke: Man held for counterfeiting vehicle inspection certificate

A man identified as Etienne Havugimana was arrested Friday in Gakenke District in connection with forging a mechanical certificate for his vehicle.

“The traffic Police officers while on their routine duty stopped the pickup vehicle RAB 924W, which was being driven by Havugimana. While cross-checking the traffic documents for the driver and the vehicle they realized that the mechanical certificate was forged, the driver was taken into custody and the vehicle impounded,” Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said. Gicumbi: Police, Youth Volunteers in nutrition campaign

The joint Police and youth volunteers’ human security activities in Gicumbi District continued this Tuesday with focus on proper feeding.

Police officers and members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) constructed organic gardens for the disadvantaged families in Ndoha Village, Bwisige Cell in Bwisige Sector.

The exercise is part of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) proper feeding for good health campaign. Read more

Police FC sign new players, others released


Police Football Club has signed nine new players and released 13 others whose contracts either expired or their performance didn’t match the expectations of the club.

Police FC Secretary General, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Maurice Karangwa, said: “The Club management is still searching to fill the vacant posts of Assistant Coach and Goalkeeper coach, and other weak positions in the team. The restructuring is meant to build a competitive team ahead of the new season. We wish those who have left the club all the best in their career.” Read more

Musanze: Training against GBV goes to security organs

The Kigali International Conference Declaration (KICD) Regional Centre of Excellence on Gender Based Violence and Child Abuse on Tuesday extended training on capacity building for security organs in Rwanda to complement their understanding and response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The training brought together Rwanda National Police (RNP), Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF), Immigration, Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) and District Administrative Security Support Organ (DASSO) from Musanze district.

During the opening of the training Assistant commissioner of Police (ACP) Jean Baptist Ntaganira, the Northern Region Police Commander explained that this training comes in right time where behavior change is needed more than ever before. Read more

Gerayo Amahoro campaign goes to Protection of infrastructure

The ongoing year-long national road safety campaign dubbed ‘Gerayo Amahoro’ continued this Tuesday with teaching primary school students and painting roads in line with the infrastructure protection month.

The month of July is dedicated to infrastructure protection and shall involve erecting road safety signposts, repainting pedestrian walks and establishing new ones where they don't exist and yet required.

The second week of the campaign will focus in the City of Kigali and the Western Province before shifting to other regions. Read more

Legal practitioners undergo training on GBV

The National Police College (NPC) has begun series of training for criminal justice officials in Rwanda to harmonize their understanding and response to the pressing concern of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The workshop that started Monday at NPC in Musanze District brings together participants from Rwanda National Police (RNP), Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), prosecution and judiciary.

Close to 300 legal professionals from different criminal justice system organs will benefit from the training, which will be conducted in six phases.

Sixty-eight legal professionals constitute the first batch. Read more
