RNP MEDIA WEEKLY REVIEW

A vehicle reportedly stolen from Kenya last year, was on November 13 intercepted at Rusizi border post as it crossed into Rwanda from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.

The luxurious Toyota Harrier, which was at the time wearing a Congolese registration number,  CGO 5815AB|22, was intercepted by police officers at the border after they verified with the Interpol I-24/7 criminal database system, which indicated that the vehicle in question was actually stolen.

It's original Kenyan number plate, according to the logs in the I-24/7 system, is KBX 335U.

Rwanda National Police has so far secured all the border posts with the Interpol Communication tool that  connects all the 190 Interpol member countries and allows investigators access Interpol’s range of criminal databases to search and cross check data on suspected criminals or wanted persons, stolen and lost travel documents, stolen motor vehicles, fingerprints, DNA profiles, stolen administrative documents and stolen works of art.  Read More….

90 medical workers complete training on gender violence response

Ninety medical workers, on Friday, completed a five-day training on gender based violence response, organized as part of the mechanisms to effectively combat the vice in the country.

 The training conducted separately at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District, and at the Police Training School (PTS) Gashari, Rwamagana District was organized and conducted by Rwanda National Police and the Ministry of Health.

It is first of the two training phases to be conducted under the Isange One Stop Centre scale-up programme that intends to improve their medico-legal reporting, medical and psycho-socio management of victims of gender based violence and getting a general understanding of the kinds of GBV and their consequences to the victims, their families and the nation in general.

Gatsibo: From drug dealing to fighting drugs

They might have spent months or even years counting their living on dealing in narcotic and illicit drugs, but the lessons learnt in an illegal act has since turned former drug dealers in Gatsibo district, ambassadors against the vice.

 On November 10, the reformed drug dealers and abusers in Kabarore Sector in Gatsibo reached out to members in their sector with messages on how enrolling in the unlawful business is just a wastage of time, and a loss. Read More…

Crime preventers acquire firefighting techniques

Over 450 members of District Administration Security Support Organ (DASSO) and Community Policing Committees operating in Remera Sector, Gasabo District received training on firefighting to equip them with techniques and knowledge on how to respond in case of a fire outbreak.

The training was conducted on November 9, by Rwanda National Police (RNP) in partnership with the Gasabo, and presided over by the district Mayor, Stephen Rwamurangwa.

Over 10,000 to sit for driver’s license tests

Over 10,000 people from across the country are undertaking both theoretical and practical public driver’s license tests in an exercise that will last for about one month.

 The exercise that began on November 7 in the City of Kigali, has now reached the Southern Province.

 “We will soon be going to the Northern Province and later Eastern Province. We emerged some neighbouring districts of the Western, Northern and Southern provinces,” said Supt. Jean Marie Vianney Ndushabandi, the Traffic and Road Safety Department spokesperson.

Police calls for vigilance against fake currency notes

Timely alerts from the public to police will ensure that criminals who spread counterfeit money are stopped before they can cause damage to the economy.

This message was delivered by the Rwanda National Police Spokesperson, CSP Celestin Twahirwa, in a bid to halt such crimes wherever they may occur in Rwanda.

Although cases of counterfeit currency are still low in Rwanda, some cases still do occur – but they are usually thwarted through a productive partnership between Rwanda National Police (RNP) and residents, according to CSP Twahirwa.  Read More…

Dutch envoy commits to support ‘Isange One Stop Centre’

The new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands to Rwanda, Frederique de Man, has said that her government remains committed to a longstanding partnership with Rwanda National Police (RNP) in supporting Isange One Stop Centre in providing quality medical-legal care to victims of gender-based-violence (GBV) and child abuse.

Big turn up of automobiles at 'Motor-vehicle Mechanical Inspection' Centre

Figures from Rwanda National Police indicate that, since 2009, the number of vehicles that turn out for mechanical inspection has increased tremendously.

As part of the ongoing awareness programme to fight and prevent use and trade of narcotic and illicit drugs, Rwanda National Police (RNP) reached out to residents of Kamonyi District and enlightened them on the effects of drug abuse.
