Police Week 2017 Launched

On Tuesday, Rwanda National Police officially launched its Police Week activities to mark its 17th anniversary.

In Kirehe District, one of the two sites where the official launch was held, Police handed over solar home systems to 155 households in Nyamikori Village of Kigarama Sector, constructed four clean water sources, improved sanitation and rehabilitated a road.

he event was presided over by the Minister of Local Government Francis Kaboneka, and attended by IGP Emmanuel K. Gasana, Governor of the Eastern Province Judith Kazayire, senior officers in RNP and RDF, mayors and thousands of residents.

Police also handed over solar home systems to 117 households in Giti Sector in Gicumbi District, the second site where the official launch was concurrently held. Read more

As it happened during Police Week 2017 launch in Gicumbi

The launch of Police Week 2017 activities in Gicumbi District was characterized by Umuganda to create a road in Rugarama Village that connects Giti and Rutare Sector. The handover of 117 solar home systems meant that all the 131 households in Rugarama are connected to solar energy.

The event was presided over by State Minister in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Germain Kamayirese, and attended by the Governor of the Northern Province and CP Emmanuel Butera, who represented RNP; Brig. Gen. Eugene Nkubito, the Division Commander, senior RNP and RDF officers, local leaders as well as about 4000 residents. Read more

What beneficiaries say after getting solar energy and clean water

On Tuesday, Rwanda National Police (RNP) launches its community development and anti-crime awareness activities to mark its 17th anniversary under the Police Week context.

In Gicumbi and Kirehe districts, where RNP handed over 282 solar energy system, clean water sources and improved sanitation, beneficiaries recounted their joy to the good leadership that put forward the social wellbeing of the citizens. Read more

Stolen sports bikes recovered, handed over to owner

Police in the City of Kigali have recovered two sports bike that were stolen about three months ago from the residence of the Chief Executive Officer of Mobisol, a solar energy company.

The bikes were recovered from two suspected thieves on Wednesday in Kimihurura Sector in Gasabo District.

They were yesterday handed over to the owner, Xan Garcia Ehri, the CEO of Mobisol.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rogers Rutikanga, the Central Region Police Commander (RPC), who handed over the bikes, said that the recovery was possible “because the victim gave information about the theft on time to allow investigations to commence immediately.” Read more

Police Week 2017: Police fights banana weevil in Ngoma

As part of the activities to mark the 17th anniversary of Rwanda National Police, Police in Ngoma District, yesterday, conducted a special Umuganda to fight banana weaver in the affected plantations in Murama Sector.

Police was joined by hundreds of residents to deracinate about 1.5 hectares of the affected banana plantation as part of the effort to prevent the disease from spreading to other plantations, as well as planting new uninfected ones.

While addressing the residents in Gitaraga Cell shortly after the community exercise, Inspector of Police (IP) Theophile Ndayisaba urged them to always join efforts in security and development programmes.

“When you are together, sharing and implementing ideas, everything becomes possible and easy, and food secure. This is the philosophy in our country in all aspects of security and development, and it has proved effective,” IP Ndayisaba said. Read more

POLICE WEEK 2017: Day Five focuses on ‘community improved sanitation’

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) community development and human security activities under the auspice of Police Week 2017 continued this Saturday across the country where the force was joined by thousands of residents and local leaders in community sanitation activities as well as construction of clean water sources and renovating houses.

In Nyaruguru and Rutsiro districts, Police started the construction of 72 toilets for the disadvantaged households – 36 in each of the two districts. At least 38 toilets were constructed that day.

Also in Nyaruguru, Police officially handed over solar power systems to 107 households, constructed roads that link communities in Nkomero Village of Mwoya Cell in Nyagisozi Sector, and renovated a house of one of the residents. Read more

UN peacekeeping course ends at Gishari

The second intake of the United Nations Police Officers Course (UNPOC2) ended at the Peacekeeping Training Centre in Gishari as the region continues to build skills in peacekeeping.

Forty-five police officers from seven African countries took part in the two-week course conducted under the auspice of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF). The countries are Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Somali, Uganda and Comoros.

The United Nations Police Officers Course is a result of the multilateral cooperation among regional countries.

The Commandant of Police Training School (PTS), Commissioner of Police (CP) Vianney Nshimiyimana, while presiding over the closing of the course, urged participants put the acquired skills to use whenever they are called on duty. Read more

Smuggled minerals intercepted in Rutsiro

At least 173 kilogrammes of untagged minerals were on May 16 intercepted in Rutsiro District as they were being smuggled to Kigali.

Police spokesperson for the Western Province, Inspector of Police Theobald Kanamugire, said a vehicle registration numbers RAC 251G, Land Cruiser type, was intercepted by Revenue Protection Unit (RPU) at a police roadblock in Miyira Cell of Manihira Sector, smuggling the minerals.

The spokesperson said that the driver identified as Jean Luc Niyimfasha, who was the only person on board, was also arrested and detained at Gihango Police station. Read more
