President Kagame challenges leaders to turn things around
President Paul Kagame has challenged local and central government leaders as well as private sector operators to change the attitude and mindset in order to deliver on the country’s aspirations.
He was closing the 16th National Leadership Retreat, Umwiherero, which was attended by more than 350 leaders from the public and private sector at Rwanda Defence Force Combat Training Centre in Gabiro.
As leaders were getting ready to depart from the retreat where they have spent three days, Kagame posed a question on what needs to done in order to turn things around.
“Have a better attitude, the correct mindset and the implementation based on some of the good policies we actually have. We should not just be coming here to repeat apologies. We need to be explaining why we are falling short on our goals,” he said. Read more
Having women in policing is a pride, Minister Gashumba
The Minister of Health, Dr. Diane Gashumba said that female in policing represent the pride and dignity of a Rwandan woman.
The Minister made the remarks at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru where she presided over the 10th 'Police Women Convention.'
"Having you in ensuring the security of our country and in international peacekeeping duties brings the difference, and we feel proud for your commitment and patriotic duties," Minister Gashumba told female officers. Read more
UN decorates Rwandan Police peacekeepers in South Sudan with 'medal of honour'
The United Nations, on March 14, awarded 160 Rwandan Police peacekeepers serving under its mission in South Sudan with the ‘UN Service Medal of Honor.'
The medals are in recognition for their outstanding role in restoring security and peace in South Sudan.
The decorated officers under Rwanda Formed Police Unit Two (RWAFPU-II), were deployed in April last year under the command of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Emmanuel Karasi.
The medal parade held at the RWAFPU-II base camp in the capital Juba, was presided over by UNMISS Chief of Staff, Paul Egunsola.
“We are happy to award you, on behalf of the UN, medals and I would like to convey my sincere gratitude to the Government of Rwanda for its commitment to the UN missions globally," the Chief of Staff said. Read more
Nyabihu: Two Women arrested carrying contrabands like babies
Two women were arrested Friday in Nyabihu District after they were found trafficking contrabands.
According to the Police, the two women had wrapped combined 540 sachets of Blue Sky at the back to guise as if they're carrying babies.
Blue Sky, a gin packed in banned polythene bags, is classified as narcotic drugs in Rwanda. Read more
Police impersonator arrested in Ngoma
A 23-year-old man was arrested in Ngoma District for allegedly passing off as a police officer and defrauding unsuspecting members of the community.
The suspect was attempting to defraud a resident of Remera Sector, Ndekwe Cell in Rwamutabazi Village, apparently to facilitate the release of detained relative.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Eastern region Police spokesperson, said the suspect known as Irene Twiyisenge was arrested on March 13, after the would-be victim informed police of the suspect's ill motives. Read more
Musanze: RPC caution motorcyclists on bribery
The Northern Region Police Commander (RPC), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jean Baptiste Ntaganira has warned commercial motorcyclists against offering and taking bribes.
The RPC, who was addressing leaders of motorcyclist cooperatives in Musanze District on Tuesday, urged them to be law abiding citizens, desist from such high impact criminal tendencies.
This was during a regular police community outreach exercise to sensitize a cross-section of communities against illegal conduct and to strengthen the ideology of community policing.
ACP Ntaganira singled out violation of road safety standards, criminal businesses like illicit drugs and smuggling as some of the unlawful acts they engage in and in some cases "thinking that bribing Police officers or other leaders will bail you out." Read more
