Equatorial Guinea president visits Rwanda


President Paul Kagame and his Equatorial Guinean counterpart, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, January 13, witnessed the signing of four bilateral pacts at Village Urugwiro in Kigali.

President Obiang was in the country for a one-day official visit accompanied by senior officials of his government.

The four agreements included, rules of procedure of the joint permanent commission, memorandum of understanding on mutual diplomatic consultations, a memorandum of understanding on tourism and a bilateral air services agreement, which could open direct commercial flights between the two countries.

Addressing the media after witnessing the signing of the agreements, President Kagame said the two countries are keen to expand the warm cooperation for the benefit of citizens. Read More

Prayer Breakfast: President Kagame urges leaders to uphold the right values

 

President Paul Kagame January 13, urged leaders from different sectors to uphold the values needed to keep Rwandans united, working hard and prosperous.

The Head of State delivered the message while speaking at the 23rd edition of the annual Special Prayer Breakfast that was held in Kigali.

Reminding the leaders about Rwanda’s three bold choices of unity, thinking big and accountability, the President said that leaders at different levels need to adopt and promote values that help them deliver on the goals of transforming the country.

He urged leaders in different institutions, including religious leaders, to always carryout self-evaluation to establish whether they are making a difference in the lives of the people that they lead.

“We have to reflect on our actions and evaluate ourselves honestly. That is how you will elevate yourself beyond petty actions. This is what will allow you to practice the values that should define us,” he said. Read More

 

Police roots for deterrent penalties for illicit brewers

The Inspector General of Police of police (IGP) Dan Munyuza has called for concerted efforts to fight against consumption and production of illicit brews if the campaign of the elimination of the dangerous alcoholic drinks is to be a success.

IGP Munyuza also urged law makers to establish deterrent laws especially for repeat offenders and manufacturers who are aware of the required production standards but turn a blind eye and abuse the processes.

IGP Munyuza made the remarks on January 16, while meeting Members of the senatorial Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security at Rwanda National Police headquarters in Kacyiru.

The five-member delegation was headed by Senator Mike Rugema who also chairs the Committee. Read more

[PHOTOS]: 140 Rwandan peacekeepers depart for CAR stabilization mission

 A contingent of 140 Rwanda National Police (RNP) officers under the Specialized Protection Support Unit (PSU IV) yesterday   departed to the Central African Republic (CAR) aboard the national carrier (RwandAir) for a one-year peacekeeping mission, effective this January 17.

The Police Officers will operate under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Prior to their deployment, the officers were briefed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations, DIGP Felix Namuhoranye who urged the officers to remain Professional, disciplined and to perform their policing duties with excellence. Read More

Private Security companies urged to embrace professionalism

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has called on Private security companies to enhance their professionalism and to remain vigilant in their daily duties.

This was part of the message delivered by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of operations, Felix Namuhoranye, to members of the   Rwanda Security Industry Association during the launch of a two-day capacity building workshop for Senior Managers and operations managers of private security firms, on January 17, at Grand Legacy Hotel in Kigali.

The workshop is being facilitated by RNP and seeks to strengthen the capabilities and professionalism of participants in their respective areas with a view to complement the already existing policing capabilities in the country.

CP Namuhoranye said that RNP considers the private security industry as key stakeholders in the protection of people and their property. Read more

K9, handlers complete Basic explosive and narcotic detection course

Sixteen new K9 and their handlers have this Wednesday, completed a two-weeks training in Basic explosive and narcotic detection handlers and kennel management course at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Canine Headquarters in Gasabo district.

The 16 new sniffer dogs, which include; German Shepherd, Dutch Shepherd and Belgian Malinois, were acquired early this month from the Police Dogs Centre Holland in the Netherlands.

According to Canine Brigade, the dogs initially had been trained in detecting explosives and narcotic drugs back in the Netherlands, but had to undergo similar drills familiarize with their new handlers (Rwanda National Police dog handlers) which will in turn enhance operability.

During the two weeks intensive training, the K9 and their handlers covered key training areas such as; Vehicle searching, luggage search, boxes, and open area search obedience and dog behavior among others. Read more

Private security companies called to focus on crime prevention

Private security service providers have been urged to lay effective measures to prevent crimes.

The Commissioner for Operations, Commissioner of Police (CP) George Rumanzi made the call on Friday while presiding over the closure of the two-day training for top managers of private security companies. 

The training was designed to further enrich their understanding and refocus their services on security and development matters. 

CP Rumanzi reiterated that security companies play a vital role in security but urged them to up their standards, acquires, advanced security apparatuses to be able to detect and prevent crimes in the respective areas of their responsibility. Read more

Assorted skin bleaching products seized in Kamonyi

Police operation to eliminate skin bleaching products has continued to yield more results.

The latest operation in Kamonyi District conducted on January 13, led to the seizure of about 36 brands of skin whitening agents.

Prominent among the products taken off shelves include Skin White, Secret White and Diamond White.

Others include Carotene, Diproson, Caro-Light, Clear Men, and Epiderm Crème.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Karekezi, the Southern region Police spokesperson said the harmful products were seized in Kayumba Sector. Read more
