IGP Munyuza receives delegation from Zimbabwe Police

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza, on Monday, received at Rwanda National Police (RNP) in Kacyiru, a delegation from Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

The delegation is led by Deputy Commissioner General (DCG), Elliot Mind Ngirandi. 

They arrived in the country on Sunday for a four-day visit aimed at strengthening cooperation and sharing experience and expertise in varied policing disciplines. 

IGP Munyuza said that Rwanda and Zimbabwe have a lot to share and to learn from each other.

“Rwanda and Zimbabwe are friendly countries and our presidents continue to lay a firm ground for stronger institutional cooperation, a guidance that we should move first to put into action,” IGP Munyuza said. Read more

Police officers complete 'special operations’course

At least 57 Police officers, on Friday, completed a 'special operations' course at the Counter-Terrorism Training Centre (CTTC) Mayange in Bugesera District. 

The four-week course was conducted by Rwanda National Police (RNP) in partnership with the Italian Police--Carrabiniere.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Felix Namuhoranye, presided over the pass-out.

He noted that the evolving policing environment requires police officers to acquire special skills in various disciplines to be ready to effectively contain high profile criminals. Read more

Zimbabwe Deputy Police Chief visit NPC

The visiting delegation from Zimbabwe Republic Police headed by Deputy Commissioner General, Elliot Mind Ngirandi, visited the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District on Tuesday.

At NPC, the delegation was given an overview of the College, its professional and academic courses and partnership with other local and international academic and policing institutions in developing knowledge and skills of Police officers from across the continent.

Among the professional courses offered at NPC include Police Senior Command and Staff Course—Strategic Leadership Program offered with Bramshill; Junior Command and Staff Course—designed for operational commanders; and Tactical Command Course—designed for tactical commanders. Read more

Focal persons undergo training on gender promotion

Rwanda National Police (RNP) conducted one day training for its Gender Focal Persons in District Police Units aimed at reinforcing the national gender promotion agenda.

The training held at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru explored networking among RNP female officers, their professional ethics in policing, role of gender focal persons in gender promotion and management of family issues.

While speaking at the opening of the training, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Barthelemy Rugwizangoga, Commissioner for Human Resource Management and Development in RNP, urged them to create a difference in their respective areas of responsibility. Read more

Burera: Motorcyclist in custody over bribery

A taxi-moto operator was arrested last Thursday in Gahunga Sector of Burera District in connection with attempting to give a bribe.

Clement Iraguha is accused of trying to offer a bribe of Rwf5000 to a Police officer to prevent legal penalties after he was caught over traffic related offences. Read more 


Musanze: RPC calls on road users to respect road safety standards

The Regional Police Commander (RPC) for the Northern region, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jean Baptiste Ntaganira met with road users in Musanze District on Wednesday last week and urged them to use the road responsibly to avoid causing or involving in an accident. 

The meeting held in Musanze bus terminal brought together drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, passengers and pedestrians. 

"Traffic rules and regulations should be respected by every road user; driver, motorcyclist, cyclist and pedestrian; when one person violates them it could be fatal," the RPC said. Read more


Nyamagabe: Residents explained on impact of community policing

Police and local leaders in Nyamagabe District engaged about 800 residents of Mugali Cell in Cyanika Sector in discussions related to proactive policing.

The meeting held on February 19, aimed at enlightening the residents on the ideology of community policing so as to strengthen the proactive concept in identifying, reporting, fighting and preventing crimes. 

The District Police Commander (DPC) of Nyamagabe, Supertendent of Police (SP) Gaspard Rwegeranya told the residents that the ideology of community policing gives them powers to ensure their own security. Read more


Gatsibo: Policing groups meet on fighting illicit drugs

Community policing groups in Gatsibo District met on February 20 and discussed joint measures to fight and prevent the vice of illicit drugs that are still common in the district. 

The meeting chaired by the mayor of Gatsibo, Richard Gasana brought together members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing, local night patrols, Community Policing Committees and district administrative security personnel (DASSO).

Present was also the District Police Commander of Gatsibo, Supt. Patrick Butera.

Mayor Gasana noted that concerted efforts of all the policing groups can create change, but observed that they are still working separately although aiming for same goal. Read more

Gicumbi: Police impound vehicle loaded with illicit gin

A vehicle loaded with 320 dozens (3840 sachets) of Zebra gin was intercepted on Tuesday in Gicumbi District along Gatuna-Kigali highway. 

The gin is classified as narcotics in Rwanda.

The impounded vehicle; Toyota Corolla plate number RAA 994N was being driven by one Cedrick Mugambira, 30, who was also taken into custody, Chief inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said. Read more
