[PHOTOS]: Police Week 2017: Ministers Nyirasafari, Biruta calls for strengthened neighborhood watch
Ministers; Esperance Nyirasafari of Gender and Family Promotion, and Dr Vincent Biruta of the Natural Resources called on beneficiaries of solar power systems donated by Rwanda National Police (RNP) to ensure they are well maintained and to be anti-crime ambassadors.
The two ministers made the call separately as they presided over the handover of solar energy systems to residents of Kamonyi and Ngororero districts, respectively.
In Kamonyi, minister Nyirasafari said: “Contribution to security starts with ensuring the safety of your neighbors, reporting Gender Based Violence, Child Abuse, Human trafficking and drug users and sellers.”
In Ngororero, emphasized the need to protect the environment singling out illegal and substandard mining, cutting of trees, wild fire and burning of waste in gardens as some of environmental degradation and unlawful acts that should be fought by reporting those involved to police. Read more
[PICTORIAL]: POLICE WEEK ACTIVITIES IN NGORORERO, KAMONYI AND KICUKIRO
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Police Week activities continued on Thursday in Ngororero, Kamonyi and Kicukiro districts where 326 households were connected with solar energy.
A total of 122 houses of Rubindi Village in Sovu Sector in Ngororero were also connected with solar home systems.
Other 120 homes in Nyagihamba Village in Kambyeyi Cell, Nyarubaka sector, and Nyagihamba Health Center were connected with solar energy.
While in Kicukiro, RNP connected 84 houses in Cyeru Village in Rusheshe Cell of Masaka Sector. Read more
[PHOTOS]: Bugesera: Buhara connected with solar energy
At least 108 households and a health centre in Bugesera District were also been added to the growing number of houses connected with solar energy as part of the ongoing community development activities to mark the Rwanda National Police (RNP) 17th anniversary.
All the connected families are in Buhara Village in Ngaruka Sector as well as Mugorore Health Centre.
The State Minister in the Ministry of Local Government in charge of Social Affairs and Social Protection, Dr. Alivera Mukabaramba lauded RNP for its active engagement on uplifting the wellbeing of Rwandans
“It’s not only about physical security but also about development of households without which can also be a security issue,” the State Minister said, urging residents of Ngaruka Sector to be agents of safety and security in their neighborhoods. Read more
Police Week 2017: More families connected to solar energy in Nyarugenge
The Police Week activities continued Tuesday in Nyarugenge District where 114 households of Mpanga Village in Runzenze Cell, Mageragere Sector were installed with solar energy.
The Minister in the Office of the President, Vénantie Tugireyezu, said: “This is a life changing donation from RNP and beneficiaries should ensure the solar power systems are well maintained. This is also in line with the realizing the second Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy targets.” Read more
[PHOTOS]: RNP launches campaign to promote road safety
Rwanda National Police launched the campaign to curb road carnage, with open discussions with motorcyclists on effective usage of road and persistent issues within their cooperatives.
The State Minister in charge of Transport, Alexis Nzahabwanimana, who presided over the official launch, said: “The government is committed to implementing all possible strategies to enhance road safety measures to further curb road carnage.” Read more
[PHOTOS]: Police Week 2017: Over 100 households given solar energy in Rwamagana
At least 108 households in Gatare Village of Gatare cell in Nyakariro Sector, Rwamagana District will no longer have to depend on kerosene or firewood as their source of light after Rwanda National Police lit them with solar home systems.
The handover of the solar systems to beneficiaries was presided over by the Minister of Infrastructure, James Musoni. The event was also attended by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana and the Governor of the Eastern Province Judith Kazayire, among others.
Minister Musoni said that it’s a “government policy to extend social infrastructures such as roads, water and electricity to rural areas in order to support development” and commended RNP for going beyond physical security to supplement such community development agenda. Read more
Rulindo: Mayor urges leaders to fight injustices
The mayor of Rulindo District, Emmanuel Kayiranga urged grassroots leaders to fight corruption and all other forms of injustice.
“Criminality exists where leaders, the people and security organs work independently. We are way beyond that and you should be drivers of community policing initiatives to ensure that crimes are detected and prevented,” he said.
The District Police Commander, Supt. Aphrodis Gashumba, challenged the local leaders to distance themselves are fight all tendencies of corruption. Read more
Fight against illicit gin continues in Northern Province
Continued crackdown on drug dealers in the Northern Province Police lead to seizure contrabands valued over Rwf5.8 million in Gicumbi and Rulindo districts, over the last one month.
The psychotropic substances seized, according to Inspector of Police (IP) Innocent Gasasira, Police spokesperson for the Northern region, include cartons of Real gin, Blue sky, Kitoko waragi, Kick waragi and African gin. Read more
Rubavu: Anti-crime clubs urged to strengthen community policing activities
Raising awareness and fighting trafficking and abuse of narcotic drugs should be made a priority to prevent other crimes it breeds, members of anti-crime clubs in Rubavu were told.
During a meeting held last Thursday in the framework of the ongoing ‘Police Week’ activities, which also include raising awareness against illicit drugs.
While speaking to students of Gacumba Teachers Training College and Umubano secondary school, Inspector of Police (IP) Solange Nyiraneza, District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), urged them to shun and fight illicit drugs. Read more

Police Football Club climbed to the second place with a 3-1 win over AS Kigali on Day 29 of Azam National League played Friday.
League top scorer Danny Usengimana grabbed a brace while co-striker Songa Isaie scored once to lead Police FC to second place with 58 points, two above third placed APR, who were due to face the already crowned champions Rayon Sport on Sunday for their game in hand. Read more
