Three arrested over soliciting bribes, issuing mechanical certificates to dud vehicles

Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested three people for allegedly soliciting bribes from motorists seeking automobile inspection services and issuing mechanical certificate to unroadworthy vehicles.

The trio, including two Police officers attached to Remera automobile inspection centre, was paraded to the media on Thursday, November 12, at the Police metropolitan headquarters in Remera.

They are Police Constables (PC)s; Fabien Nshimiyimana and Christophe Ntibarutimana, and Alex Nzeyimana, a civilian. Read more

Ruhango: Cannabis supplier arrested

Police and local leaders in Ruhango District arrested one of the suspected major distributors of cannabis.

Elam Simuhuga, 50, was arrested on November 13, Ruhango Sector, Munini Cell, Rwezamenyo Village.

He is suspected to be one of the major cannabis suppliers in Ruhango and Muhanga districts. Read more

Police recovers stolen motorcycle in Gicumbi

Police in Gicumbi District, on Thursday, November 12, recovered a motorcycle, which was reported stolen recently in Nyagatare District.

The boxer motorcycle, plate number RD 345A, was stolen on November 7, from the parking lot of Visitor Guest House in Nyagatare town, where the rightful owner identified as William Gasasira, had parked it.

It was recovered following the arrest of two suspected thieves identified as Jean Pierre Sindayiheba, 35 and Eric Iradukunda, in Giti Sector of Gicumbi District. Read more


Huye: Two arrested in foiled scam

Two men identified as Charles Nteziryayo, 40, and Gregoire Mugiraneza, 34, were arrested on Tuesday, November 10, in Huye District attempting to scam a local resident with papers.

The duo was trying to seduce the would-be victim and make him believe that they had US$20,000, and would give it to him at a lower exchange rate. Read more


Musanze: Major drug dealer arrested with 6,500 pellets of cannabis

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) arrested a suspected major drug dealer in Musanze District identified as Heralie Nyirakabanza, 64, with 6,500 pellets of cannabis.

Nyirakabanza was arrested on Tuesday, November 10, in Ryambungira Village of Gakingo Cell in Shingiro Sector alongside her casual employee called Emerence Muragijimana, 22.

Muragijimana was allegedly helping Nyirakabanza in searching for customers and delivery. Muragijimana was also, at the time, negotiating with a guised buyer of the very severe drugs. Read more


Gisagara: Smugglers intercepted sneaking bales of used clothes, electric cables into Rwanda

Two suspected smugglers were intercepted on Monday, November 9, in Nyanza Sector, Gisagara District with four bales of second-hand clothes commonly known as Caguwa, and 33 rolls of electric cable.

The suspects; Elias Shumbusho, 28, and Jean Damascene Sebahire, 23, were arrested as they crossed into Rwanda from Burundi through a porous border in Nyabikenke cell, Nyanza Sector. Read more


COVID-19: 230 caught drinking during night operations in Kigali

At least 230 people were apprehended in separate Police operations conducted in City of Kigali on Saturday and Sunday after they were found drinking and holding prohibited events.

The operations aimed at implementing national directives meant to curb further spread of COVID-19 pandemic. Read more
