Sudan, CAR Police Chiefs call on IGP Munyuza

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza, on Saturday, received his counterparts of Sudan, Lt. Gen. Adil Mohamed Ahmed Bashair, the Director General of Sudan Police Forces and Col. Bienvenu Zokoue, Director General of Central African Republic Police.

Lt. Gen. Adil is also the current chair of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO).

EAPCCO is a law enforcement body bringing together 14 countries in the region. Founded in 1998, the body was formed as a regional practical response to the need to join police effort against transnational and organized crimes.

During the separate courtesy calls at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru, IGP Munyuza and his counterparts discussed matters related to cooperation as a major factor in responding to present-day security challenges, which are cross-border in nature and largely facilitated by technological advancements. MINUSCA Task-Force commander visit Rwandan peacekeepers

The Joint Task-Force commander for Bangui (JTFB) under the United Nations Multidimensional Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA), on Friday, visited the base camp for Rwanda Formed Police Unit (RWAFPU1-5).

RWAFPU1-5 deployed in the capital Bangui, is one of the three Rwandan Police contingents deployed in Central African Republic, each composed of 140 officers.

Brig. Gen. Coulibaly Bamoro was received by RWAFPU1-5 contingent commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Damas Gatare, who briefed him on their operations and readiness. The visit was in line with his tour of JTFB Units.

Brig. Gen. Bamoro later interacted with all officers of the contingent and thanked them for the “good work, courage and professionalism.” Read more

Rwandan Police peacekeepers in CAR, residents conduct Umuganda

The Rwandan Police peacekeepers deployed under the United Nations Multidimensional Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA), on Saturday, joined residents of Nana-Gribizi Prefecture, Kaga-Bandoro town in a communal work—Umuganda.

The Rwanda Formed Police Unit (RWAFPU2-IV) operating in Kaga-Bandoro, about 400km from the capital Bangui, is one of the three Rwanda Police contingents deployed under MINUSCA.

In Umuganda, the Rwandan peacekeepers were also joined by Central Africa Army (FACA), UN Police (UNPOL) deployed in the Kaga-Bandoro and representatives of former armed groups.

About 200 residents took part in the exercise, which focused on promoting sanitation and hygiene. Read more

IGP Munyuza challenges Police officers on ideological orientation

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza urged Political and Civic Education Officers to put emphasis on solving people's problems.

He challenged them to have the "problem solving ideological orientation" in whatever they do.

IGP Munyuza made the call on Thursday while presiding over the closure of the civic education training at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.

Sixty-four regional and district Political and Civic Education Officers (formerly regional and district community liaison officers, respectively) took part in the three-day training. Read more

Female police officers completed their one year mission in South Sudan

The first Rwanda National Police female-dominated contingent of Formed Police Unit (FPU) made up by 160 police officers, yesterday, returned home after completing a one-year tour of duty under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

The returned contingent was headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Teddy Ruyenzi

They were received at Kigali International Airport by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David  Butare, the Commissioner for Peace Support Operations (PSO).

They arrived home a few hours after being replaced by another female-dominated group of the same number who constitute FPU3-2 contingent under the command of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jackeline Urujeni

ACP Ruyenzi said that their tour of duty was successful throughout but noted that the peace restoration process is still underway, a reason there was a rotation of peacekeepers. Read more

RNP honours retired officers

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza has thanked the recently retired police officers for their integrity and commended them for "serving your country well."

The Police Chief made the remarks this Wednesday at a special send-off function of 217 Police officers, who retired recently, held at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.

Seven of the retirees are senior officers. Read more

[PHOTOS]: RNP rotates female-dominated contingent in South Sudan

At exactly 1:49pm, a contingent of 160 female-dominated police officers left Kigali International Airport aboard RwandAir for a one year peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.

The Formed Police Unit Three (FPU-3) commanded by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jackline Urujeni replaced the maiden female-dominated unit headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Teddy Ruyenzi, which was deployed to UNMISS in June last year.

The replaced contingent returned home later in the evening after a successful tour-of-duty.

The female contingent was pledged by His Excellency Paul Kagame, the President of the Republic of Rwanda during the UN Leaders’ Summit on Peacekeeping Operations in 2015.

During the pre-deployment briefing, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza told the officers that they have been well trained and that they have the skills and readiness required to fulfill their duty.Read more

Regional course on GBV opens at Police Training School

Twenty six people from nine Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) member states, on Monday, started a two-week course on Gender Mainstreaming, Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari, in Rwamagana District on Monday.

Trainees include Police, military and civilians from the host Rwanda, Comoros, Ethiopia, Kenya, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and allied participants from Norway.

It’s intended to address issues regarding concepts of gender mainstreaming, SGBV causes and forms in Post conflict situations. It further provides participants with skills, knowledge and techniques of investigating cases related to SGBV during conflict situations. Read more

The national road safety campaign dubbed ‘Gerayo Amahoro’ continued last Monday with focus on owners and drivers of transit trucks.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Emmanuel Karasi, while addressing drivers at Magerwa in Gikondo Sector, Kicukiro District, told them that Gerayo Amahoro is meant to guarantee their lives as drivers and every road user.

“You don’t have to wait for the Police to tell you that high speed, abusing drugs, alcohol or using a phone while driving kills,” ACP Karasi said.

“When you drink don’t drive because it’s suicide; don’t drive under stress… rest and resume the journey while fresh,” he added. Read more
