RNP conducts FPU rotation in South Sudan
Rwanda National Police (RNP) rotated its Formed Police Unit (FPU) contingent of 240 officers serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

Police, Airtel-Rwanda partner to prevent road accidents in festive period
Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Airtel Rwanda have rolled out a joint countrywide awareness on safer road usage to prevent accidents in this festive month.
The launch was held simultaneously, on Wednesday, in all bus stations across the country.
It comes in the 30th week of the year-long ‘Gerayo Amahoro’ campaign launched in May to reach out and influence safer choices by all categories of road users. Read more
Police warns against child labour
Rwanda National Police (RNP) has warned the general public against child labour and called for partnership to protect and promote child rights.
The caution comes after after separate operations conducted by Police and local leaders in the districts of Rutsiro, Karongi and Kamonyi, on Friday and Saturday, in which at least 12 minors were rescued from varied hectic and child labour activities. Read more
Police in campaign against radicalisation
Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Muslim Community (RMC) have started a campaign against radicalisation as part of the efforts to cement the community policing ideology against the transnational organised crime.
The campaign that started on Friday in the Southern districts of Huye, Gisagara, Ruhango and Nyanza seeks to educate students particularly the Muslim faithful currently in holidays, against extremism.
More than 1100 Muslim students were sensitized in the four districts. Read more
Police Handball Club crowned ECAHF champions
Police Handball Club was on Saturday crowned the East and Central Africa Handball Federation (ECAHF) senior club champions after edging APR 30-27 in the finals.
The regional tournament kicked off Monday in Kigali bringing together four clubs; Police, APR and Gicumbi, all from Rwanda and Nyuki from Zanzibar.
Police, who had narrowly lost to APR (38-37) in the opening match of the tournament, were flying high in the first half scoring 22 goals to 15 scored by their opponent. Read more
Police seizes 11 sacks of minerals from illegal dealer
Police in Kayonza District seized eleven sacks of cassiterite minerals from an illegal dealer in Ndego Sector.
The minerals were recovered from the house of one Vestine Murekatete, the alleged illegal dealer, who was arrested in Ndego Cell on Thursday.
Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana said that Murekatete had opened a bar in Ndego, which she was using to cover her illegal mineral trade. Read more
MUSANZE: Two arrested over currency counterfeit
Two men suspected of counterfeiting currencies were arrested in Musanze District.
The suspects identified as Jean Baptiste Maniriho, 29, and Frederick Sindayigaya, 33; were intercepted in Byangabo trading center in Musanze en route from Rubavu District.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region said that the duo was caught red-handed with equipment and raw materials they were using to counterfeit money. Read more
Police urges against illegal fishing practices
Communities around Lake Kivu and those engaged in fishing business have been warned against unlawful fishing practices as well as agricultural activities on its banks, which pollute Rwanda’s largest lake.
This comes after several people have been arrested in illegal fishing activities including use of illicit nets and poaching. The latest operation was conducted on Tuesday in part of the lake on the side of Gihombo Sector in Nyamasheke District, where quantities of illicit nets were seized from poachers, some of whom were arrested. Two stolen motorcycles recovered
Police in Kirehe District recovered two motorcycles, which were stolen recently in City of Kigali.
The motorcycles, TVS plate numbers RE 979D and RC 890X were recovered from two suspected thieves on Monday in Nganda Village, Nganda Cell of Musaza Sector. The suspected thieves; Eric Habineza and Lambert Nkurunziza were also arrested, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said.
The motorcycle RE 979D was stolen last Saturday in Kabeza, Kicukiro District, while RC 890X was stolen on Sunday in Kanombe also in Kicukiro, where it was parked at Engen petrol station. Read more
Two scammers arrested in Gasabo
Two men said to have been targeting and scamming telecom banking users and agents were arrested in Kacyiru Sector of Gasabo District.
The arrest of Jean de Dieu Hakizimana, 26, and Alexandre Nduwamungu, 36, came shortly after they defrauded a telecom banking agent in Iriba Village, Kibaza Cell in Kacyiru Sector.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie-Gorrette Umutesi, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said that the duo had defrauded the agent of Rwf130, 000. Read more
