[PHOTOS]: RNP sports teams off for EAPCCO games
Rwanda National Police (RNP) will participate in the third edition of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) games to be played from August 25 to September 1, in Nairobi, Kenya.
EAPCCO is a regional law enforcement body bringing together 14 member countries. Founded in 1998, the body was formed as a regional practical response to the need to join police effort against transnational and organized crime.
RNP, which swept 45 medals including 25 gold medals at the second edition in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, last year, will compete in six sports disciplines in dis year’s games; football, handball, athletics, Karate, Taekwondo and shooting.
While briefing the teams prior to their departure, on Friday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza urged them to “aim to be the best.”
“You can have enough training but without discipline, respect, determination and the spirit of sacrifice you are aiming for failure,” IGP Munyuza told the teams at the RNP headquarters in Kacyiru. Read More
[PHOTOS]: MINUSCA Joint-Task Force Commander visit Rwandan peacekeepers
The Joint-Task Force Commander (JTFB) for the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), Brig. Gen. Coulibaly Bamoro, on August 23, visited the Rwanda Protection Support Unit (RWAPSU) base camp--MAMICA--in the capital Bangui.
The visit by the Joint-Task Force Commander was in line with the inspection of all units under the MINUSCA to assess their readiness, effectiveness and the challenges they encounter in the execution of their peace support mandate.
The delegation also included the JTFB Chief of Staff, Maj. Ahmad Abdel Salam Aladwan and Lt. Col. Ngom Aissatu, JTFB Gender advisor, among others. Read More
[PHOTOS]: RNP committed to gender equality and equity, says DIGP Marizamunda
Rwanda National Police (RNP) is committed to supporting police personnel to reach the best of their abilities in consideration of gender equality and equity, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, said.
He said that RNP has established mechanisms and strategies for gender mainstreaming including the establishment of gender promotion directorate, which the force will continue to build on to effectively implement national and international gender policies.
DIGP Marizamunda made the remarks on Monday at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru, while commencing the five-day Training of Trainers’ workshop for 60 police Gender Focal Persons drawn from all units of the force. Read More
Police warn motorists over reckless driving
Rwanda National Police (RNP) has cautioned the public especially motorists on reckless road usage, which continue to result into fatal accidents.
While appearing on Waramutse Rwanda, a morning show on Television Rwanda, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said that most recent fatal accidents were due to speeding, drunk driving and other reckless behaviors of motorists.
He also faulted motorists for violating road signage, driving road unworthy vehicles, use of phone while driving as other causes of accidents.
“It is unacceptable to keep losing people due to the negligent behaviors of a few people, who choose not to obey the traffic rules,” CP Kabera warned.
He singled the recent cases of accidents in Karongi, Nyagatare and Nyamasheke districts caused by speeding, drunkenness and recklessness.
The accident in Karongi killed 11 people, five others died in a similar accident that occurred in Nyagatare while two people died and 16 Others were injured over the weekend in Nyamasheke when a commuter vied off the road after the driver, who was speeding failed to negotiate a corner. Read More
Eastern Province: Imams commit to raising awareness against crimes
They made the commitment on Monday at the start of the three-day leadership retreat for Muslim clerics serving in the Eastern province, currently underway in Rwamagana District.
Their dialogue is largely deliberating on, among other aspects, how to improve the social wellbeing of the people.
Sheikh Djumaine Kamanzi, the Imam of the Eastern Province said that Islam is a religion of peace, mercy, and goodness.

[PHOTOS]: Police extends fire safety drills to Gisozi ‘Agakiriro’ market
Rwanda National Police (RNP) Fire and Rescue Brigade (FRB), on Thursday, extended fire safety training to hundreds of traders and artisans at Agakiriro market in Gisozi, Gasabo District.
The training is designed as practical preparation for citizens to have basic fire prevention knowledge and equipped with know-how on what to do just in case of a fire outbreak.
Agakiriro of Gisozi, on a normal day, is a beehive of activities ranging from timber and metallic materials trade with thousands of artisans, timber traders, and buyers flocking one of the biggest artisan markets in the country.

In the past two months alone, the market has experienced two fire incidents; in June and July, gutting scores of furniture enterprises, causing losses to traders and others phasing out of business as many did not has a fire insurance cover. Read More
